i would have got a really nice CRT if i was you, i got 2 mates with those dell ones and i think there rank for games, just like all tft's, i use dual 19" mitsubishi diamondtron 930sb or soemthing or other, they are so much more crisp and nice for gaming CRT's. when i use a TFT it just feels wrong, doesnt feel like i'm on a PC, CRT's forever!

    Well Xrob,

I used to be a diehard CRT fan, and was definatly set for a CRT again until alot of advice (including from Hexus forums), reviews preferring TFTs (Tomshardware, Hexus etc) and the pure fact that they don't make CRTs anymore, except for budget or rediculously high end, must be for a reason.

And I've discovered what that reason is.

TFT's are the equal to CRT now in all areas, and better than them in many more. The only thing that concerned me was ghosting, and if I try very hard with a mouse pointer over a black background I 'think' that I can see some, but never enough to worry me.

TFTs have a brighter, sharper, flicker free image and less chance of Moire issues so you get a better image.

TFTs don't take up an entire desk on their own, meaning I can save over £100 on buging a smaller desk, and still have floor space.

    And Finally. You can't get a 24" widescreen 1920 * 1200 res CRT!!!!

Now all I need to do is get someone round who isn't colourblind like me to sort out the colour.......

I have to agree with what you say, ghosting just isn't noticable to my eyes anyway. Don't forget it's got the 4 usb ports and memory card reader built in which i remembered a couple of days after getting mine!

Sony do/did a 24" CRT capable of that res if iirc

    Glad you like it

since changing to a 19" tft from an iiyama vm 455 pro , i`ll never go back - the tft is simply better (and definately gives me more desk space!!)

very nice system - virtually the same as a friend just put toegther (xfx 7800gtx`s in sli and an msi diamond board)

he games at teh same res as you now - i suggested to him the same monitor!

Alot of your points may be valid ones but i just cant use TFT's, i would simply find it too easy to get annoyed pick it up and throw it against a wall. With a CRTs even with all my rage from playing cs they have still lasted the past 2 years.

I have used a wide range of TFT's albiet no really high end ones with uber resolutions. So looks like i am staying a crt fanboy for a little while longer.

It is about time i upgraded my monitors so i think its going to have to be 2xViewsonics.

sorry to see you leave the better world of crt's.

    rob

ps. why dont any 19inch TFT go any higher than 1280x1024, such a rank resolution, CRT's so much nicer

Definitely you need a 2405 for that rig.
Stupid not to, as that kit will be wasted on 1600x1200 or below

EDIT: Ooops you already got it
    Nice one

have you considered getting a slower X2 4400 and then overclocking it to 4800 speeds? easily achievable with out any extra cooling, that way you could put the money saved towards two 7800GTs (not the GTX)

this way you would have a faster system for the same price, at least that is what i would do.

Because I intend to overclock my 4800X2
As in most situations the 7800 is CPU limited I'd rather speed up that than get 2 GPUs.
