    No display on new build

    Hi all,
I finally got all the parts to build a Core 2 Duo rig on friday, which I proceeded to build that night. However, when I came to turn on the power, everything would turn on but there would be no display. I've checked the monitor, and it works on my laptop. I have also gone out and bought a cheap Radeon x300 card just to work out if it was my graphics card which I bought off these forums a few months ago, but this didn't work.

    My parts are:
    E4300
    P5B Deluxe Wifi
Seasonic S12 600W PSU (bought off the forum)
GeForce 7800GT (bought off the forum)
    2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 667MHz

Any ideas? Is it possible that I need to flash my motherboard's BIOS to recognize my E4300?

Can anyone who has recently purchased the same motherboard and CPU let me know if they needed a BIOS flash?

EDIT: My Rev is 1.04G. Using http://support.asus.com/technicaldoc...Language=en-us, it seems I have the 1004 BIOS which is the latest one.

    Cheers,

I havn't tried it Clunk, it's just bugging me. Gonna go to the sho p 5 mins away and just buy one just to eliminate it.

Just when I told my mate about the idea and how I said this board was in high demand that he said the boards should be shipping a newer BIOS.

Well, I wouldnt be too sure about that mate, I have had 3 commando boards which are newer than the p5b and they wouldnt work with an e4300 out of the box.

Ill bet the bios is 603 or 604 or something like that.

Ok, I just got back. I hope this idea works, as I paid £41 for a Celeron 346 (cheapest they had in stock). Will post back with the result.

    Hi Clunk,
nope it didn't work I've noticed that the PCB said it was made in Taiwan, but another part said it was made in China. I think I recall that there were some problems with some of these made in China.

Is there anything anyone else can think of?

Did you clear the cmos after you fitted the celeron?

Can you also confirm that you have the graphics card power lead plugged in? Take out the battery, jump the cmos and leave it for half an hour. Failing that, fire it up with no cpu in there for about 10-15 seconds and that should reset it.

Take the board out of the case and build it up on some cardboard.

Edit: my P5B is made in taiwan and thats been a good one

Any ideas where the battery is located by any chance? It mentions I got to remove the onboard battery before I can change the reset jumper

Big round silver battery, probably obscured by your graphics card's cooler.

    Nope, didn't work

I had the jumper in pins 2-3 for 15 secs just to make sure it was cleared. Should I just RMA the board back to Scan? Would I need to put everything that came with the board to them?

    Hold on a sec....

What ram have you got mate? does it require more than 1.8v?

can you borrow a stick of ddr2 from anywhere? anything bog standard will do.

Edit: I see it says corsir ram at the top of the page...do you have access to another stick to try?

Failing that, try the corsair, 1 stick at a time, in all the slots.

And one other thing to try, I see you have a seasonic s12, well some of those have problems with asus motherboards, so if you can try another psu, any will do for now

yea, I have been testing with 1 stick since I got the Celeron. I'll have a go at the other 3 slots

Just for your reference, it's this RAM I got: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=291363

Ok I've just tried putting one stick in each slot, but no joy.

I'm assuming I didn't need to reset the CMOS for this? At least I don't recall that you need to do that

Meh i ignored what my MB book told me to reset the CMOS

un plugged all the back and let the MB power light go out..

ease of the battery with a screw driver ( :$ )... move the jumper..

plugged the power back on, gave it a nice 5 sec burst, then reput the battery back in

edit: ps, by burst i meant turning the pc on
