    Thanks.
My brother's good at all the soldering etc so he could do it safely but what I'm not sure of is - are the voltages etc the same for 4 of the wires from the 8 pin plug?

you will have to o some reasearch on the specific model of psu + what each pin is on the mobo but i imagine it will literally be one half of the 8pin connector u need

    Thanks again
the 8 pin connecter is not splittable, what it does have is 4 yellows going in one side and 4 black on the other - whereas a 4 pin has 2 of each. So I thought than taking half of each and putting them into a 4pin should do the job.
ps. I've emailed the seller for the adapter- which aparently came with it originally

Just bought a second hand Enermax noisetaker 535w psu, off ebay, which has 24/20 splittable mboard connection but no 12v P4 4 pin connection. Instead it has an 8 pin one.
Would it be safe to cut the 4 pin connector from an old psu and connect up half the wires?
If so which psu should I sacrifice - a Qtec 550w dual fan that sounds like you're on a runway, or a Colorsit 400w that came in a case and is virtually slient but weighs 0.0005grms?
I thought the Colorsit might be useful in an old PIII system since it only draws 50w
There is no reason on gods earth why you should ever use a Q-tec.
    Dont.
Unplug it now and throw it in the bin. It will save you more hassle than you can imagine.

Search the forums for Q-tec and you'll see why

I'm not using it, it's been sitting here for about 4 years - I used it for about a week back then while waiting for a decent one to be delivered and it was the only one my local shop had. So I'll cut off the 4 pin plug and bin it. Thanks.

I think it came with an adapter coz I read reviews before buying it and it was listed in the contents of the package. I'd rather use one than start cutting wires etc then it'd still be usable when I upgrade to a newer board.
