6700 overclocked temps is this ok?

Finally got the courage to OC CPU. Upped FSB and got CPU to 3000 MHZ.
Ran orthos and got the following on stock cooling:

    10 minutes - Temp 1= 70
    Temp 2=44
    15 min = 68
    44

    19 mins = 74
    44

    Are these ok?

If you are going to overclock i would reccomend getting an after market heat sink and fan regardless of what tests people have done on the internet.

I overclock my E6750 to 3.2 and it barely gets above 40 at idle with my Scythe Ninja.

For the sake of an extra £30 it is not worth frying your CPU.

If your temps are overclcoks at idle then i would say that yes they are a little hot.

With an E6 seies chip & a good aftermarket air cooler then you should be looking at 40C-45C.
IF those readings are accurate, then I'd be concerned, it's about maxed temp-wise. Get a warm day & it'll probably flake out.

Not that I think your temperature figures are wrong (sound about right actually) but I also recommend you get decent software to read the values from the CPU and don't rely on the motherboard BIOS. I've found a lot motherboard BIOS's understate the value. According to the BIOS on my old Abit AB9 Quad GT my overclocked Q6600 (@3510) never exceeded 38C and would idle at 20C. Sure, I was using water cooling but it was good water cooling.

Re: 6700 overclocked temps is this ok?

Thanks for the responses. The temps were measured using Core Temp. I have since knocked the clock back. to 2875. Orthos in core temp showed after 10 mins a core temp of 67 and 66. My idle is 39 ish.
    Remember they are "core temps"
I will get a better cooler than the standard one. But I do not want to remove the motherboard so may be limited on easy fit. On these chips is it just the 4 pins that need rotating and a gentle pull to remove? If so less worried about fitting a cooler. Old AMD days were a nightmare to fit coolers with mobo in place

    Cheers

Re: 6700 overclocked temps is this ok?

I measured my temps under load last night.

Well if playing COD4 on full settings can be called that.

Never got above 50 on my Scythe Ninja Rev B.

So i can highly reccomend that. Comes with a fan and is the push pin variety.
