Crazy Intermittent Issues With Switching Computer On

    Hi

My PC has been working fine for months. Yesterday I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I kept pressing the power button, held it in for about 5 secs, and tried again, and eventually it powered up with no other problems.

I've just tried to turn it on again today, and there was nothing, it was completely dead. (Except red light on the mobo). I unplugged PSU, etc plugged back in, nothing. So I took out one stick of RAM, and it booted up. So I turned off, and put the RAM back in and turned on , and all the fans would come on at 100%.

Now I get the same problem (fans all on 100%) with just one stick. I've tried each of my two sticks, in slots 1,2,3 or 4, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern. I get the problem in each combination. Switching it off and turning it back on a couple of times usually allows it to turn on properly...

Any suggestions? Everything is at stock and I've loaded optimised settings in Bios

    Thanks
    Mike

PSU maybe? They always present random problems.

    Thanks Timmy

    Hmmm

I've just tried switching the RAM into different slots etc and switching on and off, and I can't even get it to do it by trying now. Put both sticks back in and its booting first time every time. Ggrr.

Guess I'll leave it and see if I have the same problems tomorrow after it's been left off overnight.

Run memtest 86+ for a few hours. Also check the connections to teh disk drive - and you might as well check tyhat everything is seated correctly.

(I had a similar problem recently - which was temperature related - all worked when the system had cooled down) and it turned out to be an 'iffy' IDE connector.)

    Maybe yes.
    Likely.....nope.

That is the best unit in its class (although all manufacturers have faulty units sometimes).

This is a IP35 thing isnt it? Nearly all the reports of this issue seem to come from this board.

u got any sign of dust of fluff on the motherboard ?

a slight change in resistance caused by fluff can send a mobo wappy

may even be thermal paste got onto something.

the thermal pads they use can weep silicone onto the board as i found out when i removed my strikers heatpipes, i was shocked to say the least !
