Exclamation Xigmatek HDT-S1283- Problem Installing Heatsink

    Hi,

How do I install this in my machine, seems near enough impossible? I have a Coller Master Centurion 534 case, where Ive installed an Aussu P5K-Preimium mobo & Intel Q6600 cpu. But the installation of the heatsink with pushpin in near on impossbile, whether its in the in case or out of it!!

With the 120mm Fan on the heatsink, it leaves very..very little room to reach and pusdown the push pins in the mobo, unless you have the fingers of a 5 yr old and the power or Arnie to push it down (The pushpin themselves are very stiff and don't go down as easy).

Had i known it was going to be this difficult installing this, I'd have gone with a heatsink with a backplate like the Thermalite Ultra-90 or something.

    Help someone???

You have to take the fan off before installling it, I could only put 3 off the rubber mounts for the fan onto the heatsink but still holds.

Mrt9888 - Did you install it while it was in your mobo, or did you take it out?

I tried installing the fan once the heatsink was in place, but because there isnt much room in the case, getting the fan one was impossbile..coz it doesn't go in easily.

Also, quick question. Does the fan blow out the air from the heatsink, or does it blow air into it, and through the otherside?

I installed it while the mobo was in the case, after installing the heatsink put the rubber mounts onto the fanand just slide the rubber into the side of the heatsink I used a small screwdriver to wedge it in properly. The air is blown out the back of the case.

Re: Xigmatek HDT-S1283- Problem Installing Heatsink

Will I not need a Xigmatec specific backplate, or will a normal backplate do? And also how would the installation go?

the Thermalright bracket apparently works too but there is a Xigmatek "Crossbow" bracket http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=824662

Re: Xigmatek HDT-S1283- Problem Installing Heatsink

Buff - Apologies if this seems like a silly question, but how does the Crossbow bracket attach on to the heatsink? Is it screwed on, glued on?? I'm looking at it, and cant think about how the main heatsink will attach to it. I know the legs of the bracket fit into the holes of the mobo, but cant figure out how the heatsink fits on to the bracket in the first place.

Thanks for the link Buff. Explains a lot. I think I'll go with ones of these instead of tryin to fix it with the push pins.
