    Re: soundcard driver-less help!

Is it an external sound card or is it on-board?

    Re: soundcard driver-less help!

You might only have uninstalled the drivers, not actually deleted them (you might know from what you did). If they are only uninstalled, you might be able to re-install from the hardware properties menu, or you could physically remove the card, boot the machine, power down, re-install, and then hope that Windows recognises the card and installs the drivers.

Otherwise, taking the card out may help identify mfr and model, and you might then be able to google for the drivers.

A good way to find drivers for any card; locate the largest chip on the board, take a note of its markings and punch those into google.

    Re: soundcard driver-less help!

I usually install the free Sisoft Sandra prog and then look up the hardware in the menu. From there it will displays the model and make regardless of whether the drivers are installed or not.

    Lightbulb Re: soundcard driver-less help!

If you were using on-baord sound, it'll most likely have been either Realtek's AC97 drivers, or possibly the Realtek HD Audio drivers?

If you have a dedicated soundcard, use a system information (SysInfo) program (Everest Ultimate Edition is the daddy) to find out what make/model it is, then download the drivers from the manufacturer's website
