I think he means that CCC has failed to start as expected. If so, I would go to the control centre, remove all ATi entries, then re-install CCC and drivers from scratch.

    Re: catalyst control center

I don't believe so. It's a software problem. Software very rarely can damage the hardware.

    Computers do instructions in order.
On booting up the PC has a command to start the Catalyst Control Centre
(This is a feature of the software that controls the videocard)
It was unable to start the software. Probably becuase it has bcome corrupt or otherwise damaged. No biggie - it's software.
Download a new copy from the link above, to your desktop or somewhere you can find it again.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add remove software. Remove all ATI and CCC software.
    Reboot
Go to downloaded file. Double click to run
    New software will be installed.
It may ask you to reboot.
Reset display settings to your prefs.
    Done.

If you still have probs after that come back to us. I have to go now, but someone else will be able to help. Remember to stay calm. It's only a machine.

Yes - do it. for your operating system XP ? Vista ? 32 bit vs 64 ?
If you cannot answer these, better get someone who knows a little more than you to do it.
