That's right, I've assembled another PC that doesn't work!

I have a complete inability to build computers successfully, so when I assembled my HTPC and it failed to do anything I was probably the least surprised of anybody.

It spins up fine, and doesn't cut out. But there's no output on the DVI or HDMI, even when I used the jumpers to force detection, and no lights appear on my USB mouse or keyboard either when plugged in. It's remotely possible that the BIOS is an old one and doesn't support the CPU, but surely if that was the case I'd get some kind of output on the screen rather than absolutely nothing?

Yeah I saw that. I'm a bit confused though, because he says it "won't start Windows stably". I don't want Windows, I just want a POST.

Also, someone says they used version 1.4 BIOS with a 705e and it "crashed all the time in Windows". So unless I've got 1.3, released in October 2008, it should theoretically do the same thing :/

Surely the BIOS isn't that old?

Think of this as the latest update to my project log

I've decided to fish around for some spare parts to do some testing, might get myself set up with a spare rig at the same time. I do have a few extra photos and bits to go on the project log, but after it failed to work I was a bit disheartened... to say the least. I'll do the update once I've got it sorted probably, will feel a bit more like doing it by then I hope.

I'm going to run through all the software installations as well obviously, so there's a bit more of a way to go yet

Have you tried all the other basic tips'n'tricks?

Booting with one stick of RAM (I remember you saying you forced one bit home), assembling everything outside of the case and so on.

I've tried a few very easy bits, but I'm holding off for the moment... don't want to take a screwdriver to it all if I can avoid it.

Okay, tested with a second PSU and same thing is happening. Will continue my experiments

Take it all out the case - come on man, I'm dying here...just waiting....
