firmware update on router, is it worth it?

well, on my linksys wireless router i was getting annoyed with the fact sumtimes it just loses the connection, so i thought about upgrading the firmware, but also, i use the firewall tats built in, i was wondering if firmware updating also updates the firewall or do hardware firewalls not require updating??

    thanx guys

Yes - first question my networking savvy friend always asks me when I have trouble with kit is "have you updated the firmware?".

HW firewall might be updated/bugfixed, shouldn't overwrite any of your settings though.

check the support forums on the hw vendors site to see if theres any known issues with the new firmware cos it's not allways the best way to do it.
