Re: HEXUS.winners - win4FREE competitions :: win £550 of Logitech kit from MoreComput

1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
I liked the layout of the tabs at the top of the site, and on the left hand side, and the payment options easily found on the right hand side. I also liked the way that the search operated, and how you could quite easily narrow a very vague search category down quite quickly, into something more specific, without too much prior knowledge. As far as the product pages went, the level of information provided was quite ample, and i felt the size of the pictures is just about right. Also a big bonus, is that the price levels seemed quite reasonable. What really stood out, was the reductions tab, that did draw my attention, and also the ease of finding specific categories.
2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
The main thing that stood out, was the listing system, although it was quite quick to choose a main category, and then a smaller category, eg Computer>components>computer cabinets, i feel that the category in itself was quite vague. Although this is one of the most vague categories, it could probably be broken down a bit more. Also as the sorting was quite limited, i felt that it could sometimes deter someone that was looking for a particular sized HD rather than by price or brand.
3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with on-line shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
I like the menu systems of both Dabs.com and Scan.co.uk they're very useful for narrowing a search down, and at the same time (mainly dabs.com) aren't to dissimilar to the system already in use, so existing customers could probably quite easily make the change.

1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
the seperated "gaming" section is pretty cool, all the good stuff in one area..
the motto "no gimmicks e.t.c"

2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
quite small on 24" (be nice it it'd expanded to the end of the screen)
messy layout IMO, not very clean and attractive.
the pink..
the blurryness of everything
dont find it very easy to navigate

3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
clean and attractive pages, easy to navigate and simple to get what ya looking for.
deals that change per week or day not just a reduced section with 4000 items... that must be like 1/4 of your total stock?
a clear pricing scheme, differnt ways of viewing results of items e.g frames and picture sizes
clear and sharp pictures for all items

off to bed cya! hexus & morecomputers!

Re: HEXUS.winners - win4FREE competitions :: win £550 of Logitech kit from MoreComput

Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

Firstly, I liked the area on the right hand side of the pages, which inluded the customer ratings, security certificates and the awards that they have won. I liked this as it gives me and other potential customers the confidence and knowledge that they are buying from a reputed and safe site, and will not get ripped off or scammed. Also having it on the home page means it is instantly visible which is also very good. However could be toned down a slight bit ie. not having it on every page where it becomes a distraction.

The clearance area is also very good; it is easily seen on the page and means that people (including myself ) can pick up a bargain if need be.

The mobile aspect of the site is also pretty good. Viewing it on an old htc phone, i was able to go through categories and find products fairly easily

The fact that you can search by brand is good as many other retailers forget this aspect, and it means that people can be more specific if searching for particular items

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

There are a couple of things i dont like about the site. Firstly is the menu system on the homepage. You have a rather basic looking menu on the left hand side that doesnt keep to the font and colour layout of the rest of the site (the blue looks very out of place). Also there is a separate menu type thing to the right of this menu... it has no value and clutters up the homepage a great deal. It would be better to have one standard menu throughout the whole of the site that has the popouts with the submenus when you hover over it (i hope you understand what im talking about )

The menu labelling and categorising of products is a bit weird. Components section should have its own catagory as it contains many, many subcatagories ( which are also very rough looking). Also, it is hard to find certain products such as USB sticks; I found it in the networks section which is not really where it should be, and certain laptops. Also in some sections, you cant narrow filters far enough, eg in the cooling area, you get a whole mix of stuff without being able to narrow any further.

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do

I would like Micocomputers to have a Deal of the Day area/system such as those that aria, ebuyer have; this would attract me to the site and i would be more likely to have a look at the site and buy from them. Also, they should try and have free delivery as i often choose e-tailers that provide this service over those that dont.

If there was one thing that Morecomputer.com could do, it would be to provide real-time price comparisons with other major retailers for the products that they stock at the lowest comparative price. This would be good as it would mean i know that the price from Morecomputers.com for a particular product is the best price i would get, meaning i would not have to waste time looking for prices from other sites. This would save a lot of hassle for me especially... (i should be concetrating on my a levels lol)

Customer ratings are always great. I always loved them on overclockers and it's great to see that there aren't many items that don't yet have a review. Alse the "reductions" section is great! I'm guessing you have a certain time period where the items change, maybe a week or a month? I love those sort of deals too. Even though i'm only saving a 20pounds or so, I love the fact i'm getting it cheaper than I wolud normally. It's encouraged me to buy quite a few things so it's definately a great marketing idea. Just one last thing that I think is AMAZING... That wonderful tab at the tob "tracking". I love to know how far away my new laptop is or when i'll get my new GPU. I haven't tried that feature as I haven't bought anything from you yet but if it's anything like the tracking system on lets say Parcel Force (last company I received anything from) then I will love it.

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
The delivery charges and arrangments. Maybe get a greater range of choices? (This might sound selfish but...) I know you have a few but City Link SUCKS in my town. There isn't a depot here and if I miss a parcel for some reason I have to go all the way to the next town which is like 30minutes away and I can't drive! It's quite annoying. you've probably got some deal with them I guess so there isn't anything you could do but meh! One other thing, I know it's little but silly little things like this annoy me! When you click for example computers down the left hand side, a submenu drops down. This is great however when i click computer again it doesn't go back up. It's a tiny stupid thing but i'm sure you web desiger could do something about it in 5mins. Apart from that it seems really great. Can't tell for sure yet until I use it, however the City Link does put me off i'm affraid

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
I don't really have many problems with online shopping so i'm going to suggest something overclockers.co.uk currently does. They do specialist deals like an already overclocked desktop or a bundle with the tools to create your overclocked system. Not just that, the CPU, Memory and Mobo bundles are really great and it does make you feel better knowing that they will all work without you having to make sure.

hope you get time to read this and I hope you aren't so bored of reading them by the time you get to mine that my whine about City Link will make you want to attempt to scratch your own eyes out with the rounded edge of your mouse... If only that would work...

[edit]Just been looking at the site now and search for Eee PC as I really really really want one (maybe change the prize to an Eee PC and make me win? I would love you for life ). Anyways, I want a black 4gig one and there were 3, all around teh same price with a coulpe of pounds difference and all with the same spec and description just slightly different model names... Wha?! Just thought I wolud let you know. [/edit]

Overall site layout is simple, not cluttered

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

"More than 40,000 products - no hidden charges - no gimmicks - no nonsense"

You have this in two places, the top and the bottom but you listed the product amount, you might want to consider removing it or increasing the font for the links like site map and such. Change the white background, perhaps to a shade of gray. The Gaming link should have a referenced PC/console section, because gamers make up majority of your sales but Gaming in general is not defined as console players only, thumb monkeys should not have all the glory

The search engine = epic fail

If you want to corner the market for PC products then make sure your on trend watch. The ATI 4850 has been out for some time now and quite a few people have them. Though when I go to Computer/Components/Video Cards/ATI Technologies, I have to sift through all these old cards none of which being the game I have are suitable.

1) Searched for 4850 = found 3 items, non of which were GPU cards.
2) Searched "ati 4850" = "We have found 0 items that match your search criteria: "ati 4850"
3) Searched for "ati 1950" = "We have found 0 items that match your search criteria: "ati 1950"
4) Searched for "nvidia 9800" = brought back 2 cards
5) Searched for Xbox - brought back some controllers for it
6) Searched for PS3 - brought back nothing but printers. . . ?
7) Searched for Playstation - Takes me directly to - Buffalo Wireless-G Wi-Fi Gamers Access Point
. <--Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
8) Searched for Sony - Sorry, your search for sony produced no results. Again
9) Searched for Wii - Sorry, your search for wii produced no results. thrice

These are some incredibly popular products yet you cannot find any???

Last but no least,

Error Occurred - Sorry For Any Inconvenience

We regret to inform you that an error occurred when the last action was performed. Our Technical team at MoreComputers has been informed automatically about the Error.

You have encountered an error more than once. To carry on shopping why not try to reload the entire Website. You can do this either by following the link below or clicking on the More Computers Logo in the top Left Corner.

-------

Not the best first impression and this is truly my first experience with the site so safe to say this is not the kind of experience you want to pass along. But as a customer I always do a back ground on who I shop with because I'm a tech and all we do is trespass so I want to make sure before my money goes out my order goes in.

But in my quest I find -

I have to outline the sentence "According to the MoreComputers.com research, online shoppers also find poor stock information, the lack of contact telephone numbers and the use of 0870 telephone numbers very annoying."

Please take the search thing seriously because you said it yourself, nobody likes to not find what thier looking for because then you become a back burner store, one of those "they're good for monitors but thats all" type stores i.e. Dell.

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

Better ability to locate items i.e. true google ability to locate items specifically in the site. Live chat system for order query and information. Bill me later is a nice start, they offer a good service for those not wanting to go all out with credit cards.

You click on gaming on tigerdirect they have a superb list but they only have few items for PC but needless to say you know where to find xbox and psp and so on.

I am not sure my opinion counts much because I'm in America and of course will most likely not use your site, not because I'm naff and not bother to look convert the currency, it's because the only internation shopping I do, is for hard to find items like remote control helo batteries and such. Don't get me wrong, your site is good and I am not wanting to be a nause but honeslty this is my first impression of the website.

I doubt I even qualify for the contest being in America but there was nothing said about it so I figured why not. In either case I hope the site continues to excel in the areas it's most recognized for.

#Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

I like the use of pictures to back up the text on the main page, makes it looks a lot nicer. The ''best sellers with reductions'' seems like a very nice (& tempting) idea. The tabs at the top of the page are a good idea. There is nothing worse hunting around a web site for information on delivery charges & tracking/returns. The moto at the top of the page is also good, very simple but it re assures me that im not going to get stung by using you. Like the idea of this competition aswell!

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

For some reason i cant load anything but the main page. In Firefox the page loads blank (as in totally white), in IE it just comes up with ''web page cannot be found''. I am in south africa on a dodgy connection though so it might just be me, but everything else (main page & rest of net) is working without any problems. I will re-try when i fly back to the UK next week. I dont like the fact there isnt a phone number on the front page. I do like one (preferably 01 or 02, NOT 08** due to mobile phones not including them in price plans) on the main page. Helps me feel re-assured that the etailor isnt making it hard for me to contact them should there be a problem. Hard to find contact details = something to hide? etc

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

With scan etc offering free delivery i think that should be your first port of call. If the previous posters are correct (i cant check ) with the low number of products offered, then this also needs to be sorted. It is a lot of hassle having to order from 2-3 different etailors and having different delivery dates etc. I would rather pay a bit more money and have my entire order from the same place. Maybe also consider getting into bed with hexus & having a support forum like corsair, scan etc?

1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

I like how obvious you make parcel tracking etc.. That's a nice touch. Highlighting your Price Reductions and delivery in it's own section is good too

The layout isn't bad and it is obvious how to use the site, if a little inefficent.

The prices themselves are pretty competetive in places as well which is great

2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

As I will explain further in Q3, the filtering system on your components isn't the best.

3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

Since this is an entusiast site I can only assume you want to aim at enthusiasts, I have a few suggestions.

Filtering products is one thing. As an enthusiast if I want to find all the AMD based 780G boards, I seem to have to look through either all the boards, or just one brand of boards to find them. That makes it difficult when someone like scan lets you filter it very easily in two clicks from the home page.

Searching is obviously perhaps a better way to accomplish the filtering I suggested but the search seems a little slow for me.

Again with notebooks, people are almost always after a specific size, subnotebook or netboook, 12 -13.3", 14.1 - 15.4", over 15.4". That is almost more important than filtering on price as you have allowed for.

The other thing about entusiasts is the various types.

Silent PC entusiasts, Overclocking, air cooling, water cooling, HTPC components (micro ATX, mini ITX etc..). If there was a way to differentiate your components or at least highlight your components for particular categories it would be a great help to a lot of people. Take a look at specialtech or KustomPCs for examples. Scan do a fair job of it too.

Loyalty schemes are obviously a nice thing to have. To use scan again, regular posters here will get free delivery above £20 ex VAT, a nice touch. Ebuyer also have a free delivery above £50 option. No one likes paying for delivery plain and simple but is £5 is standard for what ever you buy, size and weight not being issues, then it's not all that bad. But loyalty schemes are always good lol

Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

What's really striking is the fact that the website presents itself nicely, instantly giving you a feel that it has been professionally and carefully executed. The information on the right hand side i.e. pc pro awards, customer feedback from well known sites, hacker guardian - instantly reflects the quality of the company allowing a first time visitor to really bookmark this as one of the e-tailers for computer related items.

Perhaps the most important, in my point of view is that delivery, tracking, and returns are on well defined and separate tabs on the top. I think this is an important feature a lot of other sites are lacking, as a customer when buying from on line websites information about the shipping and return of items is of great importance. Its accessibility gives an impression that the company doesnt hide anything, striking me as being informative ergo good customer service.

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

The front page of the webpage is neat and presentable but not striking enough, although i dont see this a negative but its something i think could be worked on. The categories are simplistic and neatly done, but however are not really well arranged. Seeing how the gaming section does not have any items for pc gamers, and this is just one of the few problems. I have to say the large search box really hit me well, but after running test searches on it it didnt really give outstanding results. This is the most important feature for a website. If google got successful because people love to search, then that should be no different for this website.

One thing that gives me a big problem is the white text highlighted with pink. Although I have to agree that it follows the company logo's colour, i think the contrast is not really right and somehow is a bit of an eyesore. I would like to suggest pink text and black highlight. Or if possible, adding a background colour to the entire site would be nice.

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

The biggest problem i have with on line shopping is that most if not all of the pictures of the items are taken from pictures handed out by the products company. Thats why sometimes before buying a laptop or something else, I usually go to my local store to check as to how a real product looks like in the flesh. Then puchase it on line later on if i like it (obviously because its cheaper).

I would like an e-tailer to show raw photos of RELEVANT items much like how newegg (a US website) does. Because sometimes items look good on the pictures, but end up being a lot worse in real life. If not possible then why not let purchasers upload their own photos? Just an idea. Again im saying RELEVANT items, we really dont need to see how well a CPU looks in real life anyway because its gonna bes spending most of its time under the heatsink.

And remember some people love to talk about their problems but im sure a lot of people are comfortable typing their problems. Especially given the funny names hardware have these days, im sure the letter and numbers doesnt make saying it any easier.

1: Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

It's nice and clear, with plenty of information about the products. I especially liked the recommended Youtube videos and customer reviews.

2: Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

I dont like the navigation system at all, as its not clearly layed out or organised properly, and it does not easily allow you to filter the products. For example when searching for memory I can only filter it by brand. I'd like to be able to filter it by multiple factors, like type, speed and size. I think this is where sites such as Scan's and Dab's work brillianty.

3:Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

I think the main thing is making sure that the information for every product is completely correct, and gives all of the extra information which I ususally look for, like revision numbers. Some times when shopping its hard to tell if what you are ordering is the latest revision of the product (for example with motherboards, or other similar products) or has had any firmware or fixes applied.

1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?

Clear delivery page with concise information. All too often on some sites I have to jump through hoops to find the information, or worse still, get all the way to the checkout before it tells me.

Obvious clearance section is good too. I like flicking through bargain pages, not so sure my credit card does though.

2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

A few too many price figures around products, especially in the Reductions section. A 'Was', 'SAVE', 'ex VAT' and 'inc VAT' figure for each product makes it a tad difficult to flick through quickly and see the correct prices. Making the 'inc VAT' figure significantly larger might help.

As others have said, the white space is very inefficient, spreading things out a bit more might help with the clustered pricing I mentioned as well.

I would like an option to split computer components up into further categories. I didn't, for instance, see an option to split memory into DDR, DDR2 & DDR3 or Intel processors into Quads, Duos, Celerons etc.

3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

Although I appreciate the difficulty of taking and uploading tons of high res photos, I really would like to see better pictures of what I'm buying for some items. Not so much mainstream stuff like processors etc where you know what you're getting, but for obscure items that it's harder to find detailed reviews of it's often a bit of a gamble. With things like cases, laptop carry bags, keyboards etc I really would like more than a thumbnail before buying.

Re: HEXUS.winners - win4FREE competitions :: win £550 of Logitech kit from MoreComput

I haven't read the others so these points may have already been covered...

1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
- Expanding side menu is nice although a deeper layer of sub categories would be useful
- Real phone number! It is great that you are not trying to skim extra money of people who phone you. Makes you look very honest.
- Its on Hexus. Adds to the brand image of the site and it adds a degree of trust

2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
- Some products spread over too many pages (even with 30 per page), filters by socket, brand or price would be good. Maybe have the popular products at the top and then a long list (without photos) of all product underneath, so I don't have to browse through many pages to looks at all your 159 motherboards.
- You must sub-categorise motherboard and cpu by socket
- Need a bigger range of PSUs

3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
- good customer service brings loyalty big time. Ebuyer/Scan have brought in a lot of business by going the extra mile.
- weekly special offers at very competitive prices. I surprise myself how much other stuff I buy after being tempted into an order by a bargain. Last time I wanted just an Sharkoon Quickport, but I ended up with a LG Blu/HD combo drive too!

Will add more after I browse around a bit more

Re: HEXUS.winners - win4FREE competitions :: win £550 of Logitech kit from MoreComput

# 1. Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
I liked the clearly defined product categories. Eg i wouldn't get stuck choosing between two similar categories that clash when trying to find something i was looking for.

# 2. Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
The site seemed to lack any form of style that i have accepted as an industry standard. Compared to ebuyer this site seems too simple. The colour theme, particularly for the sub categories is unattractive. Also on a modern widescreen monitor this site leaves too much blank space. It just doesn't have the same professional presence as one of the more established e-tailers.

# 3. Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
Call me a man of simple pleasures, but i would definitely like to see a manufacturer site link for each product. That would make a shop one i would have a reason to come back to.

Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
Clearence/Reductions sections with low prices. Ability to use PayPal is great - i dont trust 'new'(Not recomended to me/new retailer) retailers with my cards on my first purchase. Games section is it puts gaming products in one place, so if your looking for a keyboard, mouse, headphones etc you can find it there without searching the place

Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?

Low Quality images are used on the front page, alot of white space. Text is kind of small, needs to be a bit bigger. 'View Larger' doesnt show you a larger version of the picture, it shows you the same picture. Kind of slow. The pages are kind of cluttered. Would like things to be more catagorised, preferably on the side menu the adbility to find it, ie under components you can select memory, or cpu, etc. Top menu doesnt drop down for easy navigation which is a let down. You cant search, almost ever product ive bought from an online retailer ive searched for it rather than finding it.

Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.

Customer support, if you have a problem you should be able to contact them, sort any problems out etc easily. Also first impressions, when i first got onto ebuyer/scan after being recomended, first thing i saw was the site and products, it was great, ended up purchasing. Free delivery offers persuade me to buy more.

1.Was there anything you particularly liked about the MoreComputers.com site?
nice simple easy to read layout.
the ability to use paypal as a payment method is also good
and nice simple tracking system.
seperategaming section is also cool

2.Was there anything you really didn't like about the MoreComputers.com site?
site looked very dull and boring very little colour to it. nothing that really grabs you as you join the website.delivery charges are a little high

3.Finally, if there was one thing any retailer could do to solve a problem you have with online shopping, what would it be? Or, if you prefer, just tell us something another retailer does that you'd like to see MoreComputers.com do.
i like the fact that scan send you a text message when your order is despatched, this is really good if you are waiting on an urgent item but don't want to sit at your pc waiting on an email.
loyalty program such as free delivery on orders over £50 or similar or 10% or £5 discount(wiggle.co.uk do £5) for people that subscribe to your newsletter.

these things will draw customers in and then your good service will keep them
