I always thought Windows ME was classed as an upgrade for Windows 98, and was never a full blown os version, so on your list, I would replace Windows ME with Windows NT, but that's if it was me.

Did you try this fix?

So its 2 and a bit times better than Windows 3.11 then yeah?
matty, what the hell are you talking about?
It runs much smoother than XP for a web surving, game playing, programmer on my Q6600 (3.something GHz clock atm) The games loose some FPS, but all are still very playable, but the OS feals a lot more responsive, which i like.
My laptop runs it flawlessly, this was just some cheapo 650 quid thing i bought.
It runs fine on my core2 mobile cpu'd media center.
It runs and still able to play 720p on my mini-itx atom.
The ONLY driver issue i've had was a linksys card in 64bit.
Yes the drivers aren't as comprehensive as an OS thats been out for 8 years, but its really a fine OS.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
but that's exactly what they said about Vista.. it'll be at least 2011 before it's anywhere near being a good OS, just like most of Windows' OS's
i would like to think that maybe they will have done a very good job here, i just can't see it happening
tbqh with ya, i shouldn't need to use any fixes or anything, the box and disc both claim they support Windows Vista 64-bit, but it doesn't.. and the link's broken aswell
ROFL. You should never need to patch? You live in a dream world if you honestly think that.
updated link (if you feel you can be bothered to fix your issue instead of moaning about it!)

yeah... and how old is XP? coming on 7 years!
thats 7 years for drivers to be written... and niggles to be ironed out...
if it was vista that was out for 7 years then vista would have shedloads of drivers for everything...
mebbe you should have been part of the 'mojave experiment'... (but obv it wouldnt work, as you have tried vista, so you would notice it )
lets see.. when XP came out, there were a hell of a lot of drivers issues...
1 year on it was the same storey.. driver issues...
i only adopted XP over 98, 3 years after it came out, (kept trying it inbetween) when everything had had time to mature and be perfected...
but with vista i jumped straight in at the deepend and have not been dissapointed... 'it just works' as they say ...
yeah, it's now been chopped and changed to get rid of a few annoyances... but even shed old games that wouldn't run happily under XP (normally) seemed to work better under vista.
yes there were driver issues at launch... yes it took some companies a long time to sort things out (creative) but does that make it a failure? the only complete failure was 9x based ME, all of the NT things have had niggles.. but failure? i think not...
Runs real fast with Aero on, after the Vista orb it's straight to desktop. I've noticed if you turn off desktop composition and themes it starts up slower.
Linksys are gays and don't want to make 64-bit drivers for their products. Only because Vista had the Broadcom Wifi driver could I actually use the internet.
After a while you get used to the bigger chunkier icons and spacings and how it's all arranged. Just a little bit slower than XP in terms of FPS or benchmark programs but thats worth it to be able to use all of my ram.
i always update stuff and use patches, but when you insert the disc it actually says it's going to install the 64bit driver, then it gets half way through and says you're running a 64bit version of Windows and then just fails..
done it on my uncle's PC too..
surely it should at least install, and then you update the driver if you have any problems?

I got XP straight after release and it was the most awful experience I've ever had with computers (other than having several harddrives fail on me). I had so many driver issues, BSODs, etc. This went on for months! I stuck it out and really like XP now.
Vista in comparison was 1000 times better than XP when it was launched. I can't think of any major headaches I've had with it. All these people that complain about Vista now don't know what they're talking about
They just have different uses for it
I remember Punkbuster wouldn't work with Vista for months when it was released. Real annoying thing that was. Also there was a bug where after a while of using it the folder settings would get corrupt and you couldn't select multiple files. Found no fix for that. Plus I hated losing a bit of performance than in XP
Now I'm used to it and liking Vista, it's real good and fast if not faster in some aspects.
If you turn off 'aero' (which presents itself as a theme to the user) that kills desktop composition - in the same way that choosing 'windows classic' in XP actually turns off themeing entirely. Vista will switch to 'aero basic' when an incompatible app is detected (e.g. something that uses an overlay like a TV application for example) and then back to 'aero' when the app terminates.
As usual though, people will turn off features in Vista that boost performance out of ignorance - in the same way people tell you to turn off heaps of services in so called 'tweak guides'.
