    Re: News - PS3 hacked?

It's about time... disappointing in a way though that they've got in through the Linux capabilities, it'll probably convince Sony not to bother next time, although I've never used it myself so wouldn't miss it.

The only thing that surprises me is that they've supposedly installed XP over the top of Linux... I would imagine that Linux would be much more powerful for any hacking attempts than XP.

As will all of these things - it's a start. You can guarantee that once they've found a way in the hackers will start to exploit it and they'll find various new and simpler loopholes to exploit. With the PS2 for example, you started off with the traditional modchip, then moved onto drive exploits, and then by the end of it you could hack the console without any physical modifications courtesy of the PS1 memory card bug they found.

Same with the Wii, started out with modchips etc, now you can set it up to rip your games to an external hard drive, then play them from that with just an SD card and some files.

How are you suppose to install XP over Linux? XP doesn't do PPC.

Still, the PS3 did pretty well holding all those years. How large are the average PS3 games anyway? If they are larger than DL DVD, then it would still require relatively expensive blank BD discs.

Yes if this is true its done well lasting this long. From my experience the easiest had to be the sega dreamcast.

    Re: News - PS3 hacked?

I'd imagine that due to the size of image & cost of discs most people wouldn't be able to pirate games in a way they could on the 360/PC plus the current trickiness of the process would put off many.

Just goes to show that the arguement of no piracy = cheaper games is rubbish as the PS3 has only just been cracked (although still to be proven properly from what I can see?) and the games are usually more expensive than the 360 version (production costs for Blu-Ray disc add ~ 50p to a disc I'm led to believe)

I know Bad Company was only 1Gb or so bigger than normal DVd size - probably due to the addition of a DTS soundtrack.

You'd have to compare like for like to be able to rubbish that argument. As it is we know PS3 is more expensive due to licensing, media and development costs. Once those are factored in maybe games are cheaper because of the lack of piracy?

    Re: News - PS3 hacked?

I'm confident that this sort of thing will get patched pretty quickly.
I think this will be less of an issue with the new slim model flooding the market and the 'fat' model stock runs dry.

All the H4xX0rz will get banned anyway once the new wave(s) of games are released.

it is capitalism my friend, microsoft xbox 360 games has to compete with piracy games, thats why it is a little cheaper, meanwhile sony games are more expensive. only because is more $ bdisk nahh.

No piracy= no worry to ps3 to lower prices on games.. maybe thats the reason why isnt so popular
    the ps3
