Sony's silence is deafening, they know they are doing all the same things yet microsoft are taking all the flack, next it will be we had to do because microsoft did it.
Sony's answered this all quite clearly. They're not implementing any additional DRM, second-hand fees or on-line validation services. If publishers want to implement their own protection, they're not going to stop them, that would be commercial suicide, but they're not going to enable them either.

I've been amazed at how amazingly amazing it is. Great value for money. I paid £40 and I've since downloaded 4 full games for my Vita and 3 for my PS3, and these are games I've been wanting to try/buy as well.

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but i have ended up with both current generation consoles for games that didn't make it to the PC.

For the 360/PS3, i brought a 360 after about a year after it's release. Due to Sony's epic arrogance on the PS3 launch (seriously, it was like they were going out of their way to irritate me!), i didn't get a PS3 until i brought my friends PS3 a mere ~6 months ago.

Looking at the new gen, it seems the tables have turned completely. Sony has seemed to have learned some humility (and seemingly have a noticeably higher performing hardware spec), whilst MS are the ones dripping in arrogance and contempt for the consumer...

Looks like i might aim to get a PS4 ~1 year after launch when there's some titles that interest me, and maybe an xbox one eventually if they ever decide to stop being arseholes

PC games are much better and more involving, I have never found the TV a good place to game (it's all fun until the Mrs wants "her program" on) and I find the controllers are just frustrating for anything other than simple games which bore me.
I thought that was the whole point of having a handheld console. At least, that's how I'd use it.

The ps4 is just generally better for gaming it seems like the xbox one just focused on stupid stuff that no one really wants like kinect and illumiroom which would be better off as add ons that you can buy later but they just bumped the price up by making them in built.

Not sure either, but at the moment, Xbox One almost entirely because of kinect. Amazed Sony didn't show something like that - controllers are so old school and if I want old school I've got PC gaming

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

For me, neither. I own an x-box only so I can play Burnout 3 and 4.
For the kids... Well, I won't allow another Sony console (or probably any device) in the house after trying to buy something from the sony store on the PS3, so they had better want an x-box. But, they aren't keen on the xbox because they can't play on-line. I'm thinking PC is probably the way forward for us.
I remember getting excited about the xbox 360 launch, and the Wii but I've hardly been aware of any of the next-gen consoles being launched, not sure why though. Maybe I'm just getting old.

For the price of a GTX 680 neither, PC gaming is so much superior

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

Well PS4 has one blurry teaser and whole bunch of specs that no one really knows what it will deliver in terms of experience. XBox one - I've never owned one. I'm going to give both a miss for the time being, maybe indefinitely.

Last two PS has media playback - first of dvd then Blu-ray which at least gave those who didn't game something. This time round many consumers will probably have picked up a cheap Blu-ray player along with a new TV set.

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

Like many I choose a PC over a console. Won't be investing in either of these two new consoles on the simple point that in a time when people are buying and getting used to 99p - £4.99 games on tablets, I believe that Android consoles will be the future of home gaming. Not this year, but maybe the next one or two years because, with the lower prices of hardware + lower prices of games/software and the sheer flexibility of the Android OS , I think Sony PS and Microsoft Xbox days are numbered.

definitely neither. The thought of using one of those godawful controllers makes me ill! Mouse and keyboard please, and games without context-specific actions (E to jump, pick up weapon, drop weapon, climb wall, throw grenade or talk to NPC? No thanks...).

    Long live PC gaming!

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

If a console offered me the option of using a keyboard and mouse to control certain games, and the visual impact of games was equal to or surpassed what a decent gaming rig was capable of for a fraction of the money, then I might be swayed.

    But for now, neither.

Re: Features - QOTW: First impressions - Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

I'm definitely not going to be getting anything from this generation for the foreseeable future, mainly because our tv is old and has no hdmi, but it's a nice one so won't be replacing it til it breaks.
If I were to be getting something it would be neither of these two, I would honestly get a wii u. The main reason is that I don't much like Sony or Microsoft and I'm a massive Nintendo fanboy, not gonna lie, also I don't have a wii.
One thing I have never understood is the whole pay for a console, pay for a game, and then be expected to also pay to be able to play it online. Won't do that, I refuse. My PC is 6 years old and I can still play new games, so I'll stick to that.

Stereo Camera!!! You can get surprisingly good depth sensing off a Stereo camera set-up you know! You can even get true stereo video with that and not just an extruded 2D image. The hard part for Sony will be getting the software recognition right as it has to accurately match pixels to construct a depth map and that can be a challenge - but with the extra GPGPU resources of the PS4, they can deploy pretty heavy algorithms.
