Re: QOTW: Are you planning on upgrading to Intel Skylake?

I won't be upgrading to Skylake, because I don't have a desktop now . But I am waiting for it's release to see the prices. If a Skylake-ready mobo + an unlocked i5 aren't much pricier than a similar Haswell setup, I'll go for Skylake. If I am forced to dig deep into my pockets, I'll stick with a cheaper Z97 + a Haswell or Broadwell i5.

Re: QOTW: Are you planning on upgrading to Intel Skylake?

Have been contemplating upgrading from Ivy Bridge to Skylake within the next year or so, but not to anything Core i. As can be gleaned from my profile I'm into ECC memory, so this means Xeon for me. Much depends on the price, though. If recent indications can be trusted Xeons are in for a massive mark-up pricewise.

Also, I'd really like my next motherboard to be mATX, but, since I need a C236-based motherboard, choice is going to be limited. I wonder if ASUS is finally going to make an mATX workstation motherboard...

I'm not really in a hurry to upgrade, though.

Re: QOTW: Are you planning on upgrading to Intel Skylake?

If prices are good enough then maybe so, otherwise it will likely be possibly Haswell instead? Things need to ramp up good enough to make it worthwhile, because I'm wanting to be more energy efficient. My Phenom II X6 is doing just fine, but it's starting to struggle on low/mid quality at 720p. Monitor could use an upgrade but I'm sure, there could be more drawn from my now aged GTX 660.

Looking to see how prices stand, before I consider upgrading my mobo/CPU. It's been the remaining component, that hasn't been upgraded for good reason. Everything keeps stomping on my hopes of upgrades, because new advancements come up each time it's decided upon. So I just wait and decide on it, this probably will be the time I do actually upgrade said parts.

I'm not trying to push pixels or going 4k soon or into mainstream gaming. So after the hype dies down after the release and maybe second generation products show up I might consider Skylake in a mobile device.

Pretty much my thinking, although I'd go 4k monitor and spend the extra on a w/c loop.
Ah I do love it when someone is as immature as me *high five*

WC for me has never been something I was interested in. When I first got into PC building 15 years ago then it was kind of a thought because back then air coolers weren't the behemoths they are now. But in the last decade WC has never really offered the benefits vs the cost I would expect, they seemed more like the realm of custom modders who did it more for aesthetic reasons than cooling reasons (or sound reasons, which is not an issue for me I find a humming PC soothing).

However in the last year or so I've really liked the way they look, with the tall reservoirs and coloured liquids, I could really get behind it...but only if I had a butt-ton of spare cash. My PC is out of sight nearly so it'd be a really weird thing to invest in.

The screen I'm looking at is actually a monitor, just a very big one, this one here http://www.scan.co.uk/products/40-ph...1-3ms-speakers Hexus reviewed it http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monito...065uc-monitor/

NO, I will stick to my Z87 & i7-4770K with my 28" 4K, but consider some storage upgrades and later a GPU upgrade as well.

No, pretty sure my Haswell has plenty of mileage left.

Re: QOTW: Are you planning on upgrading to Intel Skylake?

Nah... Got a 4790K and an Asus Z97 Sabertooth mk.1 in January and those are more than enough. Also got 16 gigs of 2400 MHz DDR3 less than a year ago, and upgrading to Skylake would mean buying the CPU, a mobo and DDR4. Way too expensive. Next upgrade will be my GTX 780. But I'm going to wait until 2016 and 16nm before upgrading. Pretty much every game runs 60fps on high settings on my 2560x1080 display.

Probably not. Sticking with my C2D system for a while longer I suspect, but may whack a Q6600 in to give it a cheap boost.

Yep! I think it's time to retire the old Lynnfield i5 750.

Re: QOTW: Are you planning on upgrading to Intel Skylake?

Not a big enough jump from my 4770k, Skylakes biggest jump is on the graphics and i always use a normal graphics card.
