Even though it's currently underutilized, it might be nice to have the DDR4 (I know the new Z170 boards will also support DDR4) and the extra cores, especially with DX12 in play. Though from what I've read, DX12 is only making use of 4 cores right now, and any more is not needed.
There's also the option of saying **** it to both and going with the z97 and 4790K and just upgrading the whole deal down the line when more cores are actually important. But spending money on a dead end platform makes me feel uneasy. To clarify, I don't do any video editing or streaming, and I'm looking to build just a gaming PC. I realize more cores aren't needed right now, again, I'm just looking to sink some money and not have to potentially spend more sooner rather than later to upgrade, should we see better utilization of cores in the near future. But damn, things are feeling behind the times on that front.
Would be grateful for your thoughts!
