Not exactly a fan. About the only place I can see a use for it is on fans that are visible through some sort of grating and the colors can be set to reflect the state of the computer. Beyond that I run a closed case that has no windows so rgb lighting on my motherboard is pretty much wasted on me.

No way. I hate RGB LEDs in my rigs, but I'm old.

I have zero use for RGB lighting or fancy cases. All I want is a Fast, stable computer that works.

My second comment on this thread. Ok, I'm old , started back in 286 days with PC's. Went through the stages with clear side panels and ugly fluorescent tubes , UV or otherwise. This has gone crazy OTT now with RGB. I sit here with a backlit keyboard,( only lit through the symbols to aid typing at night , back lit around symbols is a pain and doesn't help. ) Rather than this craze , fad for turning PC's into a freak show I wish they would concentrate more on improving VRM's and chipsets. A PC is a tool not a show ground attraction.

I think done right, it can look good. But at this point, it has been over done. The fact that there are now so many apps that you need if you buy parts from different manufacturers is obnoxious. Some don't even work with others installed at the same time. This is really ruining it for me.

Re: QOTW: Do you like RGB lighting in your PC?

I only just replaced my system after 7 years (though though many parts inside had changed in the old one). The new motherboard supports RGB lighting. I like it. I have erred on the side of minimal and tasteful for years. I was using a Fractal Define R2, yep they weren't around for long before being replaced by the R3. So I have been living the black rectangular dream for 7 years. I had an Akasa Zen before that. All the way back tasteful.
I have never done the lights on a PC before, so its kind of something new for me.

Do I like RGB? yes, its kind of like wallpaper or desktop customisation. Personalisation, but with the option to change, rather than some sort of DFI LanParty explosion of colour.

What I really dislike is rubbish software that eats CPU and wants to take over your life. I only use my motherboard's UEFI control of lighting and my Keyboard stores its colour profiles on board and can be edited from the keyboard.

I tried using Gigabyte's software for RGB on my board, it just ate 5% of CPU for some reason. Even then it was unreliable in controlling the lights. UNINSTALLED.

Here is a theoretical worst case: Keyboard, Mouse, GPU, AIO, Motherboard and RAM all come from different manufacturers, that's 6 mostly rubbish pieces of software. The only vendor software I have ever been impressed by is MSI Afterburner.

In my opinion GPUs should have: 4pin RGB for RGB control, and a temperature sensor read out, so case fans can linked in when needed, all from mobo's UEFI.
RGB RAM: if they must do RGB, a mini connector that can be converted out to 4pin and daisy chained for neatness.
Keyboard and Mouse, programmable on hardware or via software with profiles stored on hardware. Mouse could be holding a button combo to activate programming or a button on the bottom, then just use the scroll wheel.
AIO, just use a 4pin RGB connector, I don't want some sort of cloud/machine learning/AI nonsense

No lights please. My screwdrivers don't have glitter, nor does my drill need sequins.

Re: QOTW: Do you like RGB lighting in your PC?

The only illumination in my PCs comes from the Asus TUF logo on the motherboards (it can be set to any color as well as a host of different themes) My boxes' case fans contain solid-color LEDs (blue for one PC and red for the other). I have no plans to install any RGB lighting in my machines in the future; it will depend on how I feel about it when the time cones.

I tend to look at my monitor not the inside of my PC unless I am checking water levels, then I just shine a torch in it.

Tacky, waste of time - the first thing I did with mine was turn it off/disconnect. I want my PC to run quietly and unobtrusively 24/7, and things like LED lighting, be it on the case, or on components (unless they have a meaning) is a waste of time for me.

It's always nice to have the choice, but I know my RGB stuff gets set to one color and gets left alone afterwards.

If I have any spare pounds when configuring a new PC I will use them to upgrade the performance elements or the cooling. Lighting does nothing for me, its a bit like go faster stripes on a car !
