Too much leading edge technology is involved in the PS3 making it difficult and very expensive to manufacture. Its no surprise that this pile of electrical marvels is being delayed. Its a massive game plan change, missing all the Christmas hype of a new console will hurt Sony bad. MS & Nintendo will be laughing all the way to the bank.

good thing i'm not interested in buying one. Wii all the way for me (and maybe an xbox360if there is a xmas price drop, and gears of war hits the shelves before the end of the year)
Well, I can cut it in half!

Problem is, all that 'leading edge' stuff was looking decidely average some time back - by the time it comes out it'll have to face _even more mature_ games for the '360 (which looks to be on par with it graphics/sound wise anyway) and Nintendo's new console too.
The only thing even vaguely interesting in the PS3 is the cell processor and this has been heavily downgraded from the original target spec (because wafer yields are rubbish) anyway - everything else you can have in a 360 for half the price.

I think it's a good thing - Sony have been far too complacent for far too long about it's customer's loyalty (sheep to my mind) and this can only benefit the consumer by shaking up the market.

I knew there would be a problem with this. I'm just glad that the 360 managed to stick to its release dates.

yeah i've always been getting one on release day - if you're getting one in the first year, the prices are pretty much the same, and, whilst high, for 5 years of entertainment, its pretty good value.. reason i'm getting a ps3 over xbox360? purely my back catalog of ps1/2 games..

i could actaully buy one tomorrow, but my dslr fund is the same as my ps3 fund, and theres only £500 for both

buy a 360 and a ps2, and add the leftover £125 to your DSLR budget

you mean read it and laugh- surely no-one was actually going to buy one of these £425 montsrosities ( unless the linux rumours are true) from that amount in march 2007 you'll be able to buy the latest DX10 card and play crysis at 1080p which looks better than any PS£ stuff that's non pre-rendered.
    AMD3000+ ATIX800XL + GBNF44x mobo.. all at stock because they're good enough atm + CA A1 amp-->Mission 73S Loigtech MX1000 + 1GB ram + 1/3 TB HD array
Wintendo XP + Linux (when it works) .. just incase you were wondering

Well there's a big surprise... Sony are getting themselves into a lot of trouble with the PS3. Anyone taking any bets on there not being a Sony in two years time? Maybe that's a bit extreme but the PS3 is getting an absolute tanking haemorrhaging developers left right and centre. There seems to be a lot of game titles that used to be PS exclusives moving over to the 360.

Also, the Xbox 360 has just recently had a price drop. You can pick up a Core system from Argos for £199 now.

So if you have't made the jump to next-gen because you were hanging on for the PS3, moving over to Xbox 360 or Wii looks more attractive then ever.

You could have a 360 AND a WII for the cost of the PS3..

    Or.. buy lots of cider..

Can't wait to pre-order mine. I think this is an excellent move by Sony, it'll create even more demand for it and people won't buy 360's or Wii's this xmas because they're saving their money (and possibly selling their house) for PS3!!!! Sony will rule again!!!

    It's unbelievable.

How could they possibly have made so many cock ups with such a huge brand name?
They could have put a few cogs in a cardboard box and slapped PS3 on the front, it'd still have sold plenty this Christmas.

Almost everything surrounding the PS3 has been a debacle so far and it's been on the decline further since E3.
I personally think this is the price to pay for including Blu Ray.

What's most surprising is that it is thought that the PS3 won't be miles ahead of the XBOX360, if indeed ahead at all.
With people having enjoyed HD goodness on the 360 for almost a year and a half before the PS3 even sees the light of day over here, whats the use of waiting?

It'll certainly be a Wii60 Christmas in Europe.
