Maybe a bit harsh to say no Sony in 2 years, but I can see them with a reduced market share
and associated problems...
Bear in mind that as a whole, the PS2 is STILL outselling the Xbox360 (how much that can be put down to people replacing worn out ps2's as most people I know have killed one with laser probs)
Sony have just not found a killer seller in many markets, and they are now more expensive than other brands that have equal status (think panasonic samsung et al)
I honestly believe that the ps3 is gonna be a white elephant, a betamax mk2, and a huge failure for Sony in general. Many excellent titles now Xbox360 only.....
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Well surely the europe+others market is actually far far smaller than NA and Japan, so it won't really hurt them that much.
Betamax failed but didn't kill Sony
MiniDisk failed but didn't kill Sony
Blu-Ray still has a chance but I can't see it taking down Sony even if it dose take the PS3 with it.
Ouch, they've had to pull their £40 million European ad campaign which was due to start next month. Not good, they must have known this was going to happen for a while.

perhaps. but Sony is meant to be a big company. little ol' Nintendo has double Sony's share price right now. consider that again - consumer electronics giant Sony (the whole company, noy just the playstation bit) is worth half what kiddy games manufacturer Nintendo is worth, to investors.Originally Posted by depresion

Dont expect much in the way of price cuts. IIRC (and dont quote me on this) Sony is going to be losing money on its PS3 (atleast for the first few months) because the price of the components cost more than they are actually selling it for... or was that the story i heard about the 360. hmmm it was a while ago.Good news everybody with this delay it should be comming out not long befor it's due for it's fisrt price cut.
Sony seem to be getting a bit of a slating over at the BBC News website, thats unusual for non-techies.
This is serious for the console if not for the company, certainly all the leading stuff they talked about which looks pretty top end PC at the moment is going to look normal in 6 months.
This will give us chance to see how it will affect the HD-DVD/Blu-RAY format war.
*tinnng tong*Would all the Sony fanbois, please come out of the woodwork and report to this thread, thank you.*click*

I can't quite place why, but I see this going down the same road as the Sega Saturn..
Overcomplex hardware that's expensive to manufacture, hmm
Oh well... I'll just have to play on my equally capable (from what I've seen anyway) 360 which is half the price.
Even now the launch is delayed, I can't see that being the contributing factor for what I believe will be a failed product. I'll say what I've said before on this subject matter, the consumer is a lot more tech savvy than when the PS2 came out, even if it was launched on time I can't see it being another PS2. People only buy what the understand, and for a reasonable price. They won't pay £425 for something that has no distinct advantages over something that is £280 (1080i great, whos got a 1080i TV in the UK then? ). The brand is no long enough to save sony, take the PSP for example , it was meant to define mobile gaming, but the DS wiped the floor with it. Most people will think BluRay is a relative of the fish that Killed Steve Irwin, so that no advantage. HD-DVD has a name that speaks volumes, and you generally understand what it is just from the abreviation.
I don't understand why they went with the cell processor anyway? They coulda just got a PowerPC 3.2Ghz CPU and slapped in a Xenos core and had a beast of a system , oh wait... really though why do they always seem to do stupid sh1t like putting loads of technical bullsh1t into soemthing that really doesn't require it, I have never bought a Sony product because of the huge markup in price for equivalent parts. Who do they think they are to charge more for everything and say "its for quality" or some other lame excuse... At this rate the Cell CPU they put in will be slower than my old Cyrix (clock speeds keep dropping), and I read somewhere that the nvidia graphics card being incorporated into the PS3 will be receiving a downgrade as well. Up until now all screenshots with PS3 and X360 point to the X360 winning hands down, Wii is in a market of its own with the ultimate gaming system. In my eyes the ultimate home entertainment system is and will be for quite some time, the Xbox 360. I am not knocking the fact that the PS3 might be an awesome console, when it actually releases, but I don't like being messed around with promises and paper launches (actually ATI comes to mind here <3). I just want to see the console get released so I can judge whether I want to get one. I can see the console being a monster in terms of doing everything when it does come out but I hope that Microsoft and Nintendo don't get complacent whilst the PS3 is plagued by delays and what not. Microsoft and Nintendo for a joint venture anybody?

^_^ now to poke fun at all my friends who were deciding to get a PS3. I shall invite many of them over to play the Wii, and rub it in their faces. Bahahahah!
