Like a lot of this stuff it is pretty much tastless, much the same as lean meat is tasteless. So it's all down to the sauce.

IIRC the amino acid thing was an early "scare story" against the vegan diet. They then said it was ok if you got all the amino acids from different foods and then said it dont matter at all as long as you had some protein! As well as Soya I was led to believe sesame seed also had all the amino acids together.

I'm sure cuttting down Brazilian raid forests is not good, but crops are a far more efficient method of producing food. Eat meat by all means, but dont pretend you are saving the planet .

    my hot tip:

sainsburys basics new zeland mutton mince. 99p for 400g

it's got a really powerful flavour of sheepiness (a bit like some kind of uberlamb), and is dirt cheap. i buy it whenever the local sainsburys isn't sold out

I avoid eating Quorn as it's the most disgusting thing I've ever had to eat.

It's bland, has the texture of 4 day old chewing gum and tastes worse than it looks.

Cook it and add curry sauce such as Jalfrezi and it turns from a nice sauce to a concoction that I can only describe as hideous.

I'd rather eat sauce on it's own or even add a few chips to it than ruin a meal with Quorn

Have started making bolognese with this since eldest turned veggie. Is tasteless and unappetising so I mix a hefty dollop of red pesto when i've fried off the 'mince' and onions, makes it more bearable

I remember buying a brand of vegitarian meals when I went through a period of being vegitarian.. and really enjoying them.

It turned out later they where made of meat.

Surely just tell them to get sodded and make thier own? Thats what i get told if i decide i want meat (mum is a veggie, so everyone else has to make their own)

if one of them doesnt want 'proper' bolgonese - try doing just pesto and pasta with a drizzle of nice oil on it for them, and normal spag bol for everyone else. you dont have to put so much work in, and everyones a winner (probably tastes better too)

no, I was just surprised there was enough of her to go round for so long

re. the bolognese I think I must be a softy, I worry she won't eat properly so cook most meals for them, I can understand a veggie not wanting to cook meat though.

I have been experimenting a bit (dont tell the missis ).

Firstly cutting down on the quantity used, adding more veg/pulses and cooking for much longer. Two nights ago made a Vege Chilli. Used a lot less mince, green peppers, green chillis, spices onions, garlic yada yada....cooked for 50 minutes.....was very nice. Long cooking appeared to work.

    Indeed it is htid

A mate of mine thinks it's great and the chunks taste real too, but in all honesty cheap cola tastes more like chicken than the pieces ever do.
