    Re: Anyone with O2 Broadband?

yow, the attenuation is quite high so according to averages you should be able to get a sync of 4736kbps and a throughput of 4191kbps. So you are defying it at the moment which means your line is above average. once your line is stable you may be able to lower the SNR margin to sync at higher speeds. Little by little.

Got a good link that explains those figures? They're just numbers to me and I'd like to understand a bit more about the s/n ratio and attenuation - tyical figures etc.

I can tell you that higher attenuation is bad for your sync speeds. It's the loss of signal and is proportional to your line length. Lower is better but sometimes you can't change that. Although if you do have problems and you think its your line you can do a quiet line test by calling 17070 and choosing option 2. Thing is it must be done on an analogue phone and if you hear noise on the line report it to BT. I found that keeping appliances away from the phone line and router gave me better figures.

This shows the time the bebox DSL has been connected

    Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
This shows the type of modulation eg.G.992.5 Annex A = ADSL2+ for Belite & Be* unlimited G.992.5 Annex M = BePro

    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,356 / 14,004
Refers to the line sync rate in upstream and downstream direction the speed at which the bebox is syncing with your exchange.

    Data transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 9.49 / 5.29
Refers to the data transmitted and received in upstream and downstream direction on your connection. [ the amount you have downloaded or uploaded with your Be* connection]

    Output power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Power received to drive the signals in upstream and downstream direction, measured in reverse direction i.e. in modem and DSLAM [the transmission power of the Bebox and DSLAM]

    Line attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 9.0 / 22.0
The greater the resistance to the signal carried on the line, the higher the attenuation and the lesser the line rates. After all attenuation is really just another name for restance, and different frequencies are affected by attenuation in different ways, roughly put i.e. the higher the band of frequencies the higher the attenuation or resistance to those frequencies over a given resistance/attenuation. The attenuation figure usually relates to the physical length of the telephone line although the quality of the copper in the line plays a more important role. so some lines may appear to have a high attenuation but because of poor copper or perhaps they are alluminium are in fact the cause. [Before you ask there is no way BT will replace your line to rectify this problem]

    SN margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 5.5
This refers to the amount of signal in relation to the amount of noise, the more signal in relation to the amount of noise the better the line performance will be. If this is set too low it will cause instability, set too high and the speed of the connection will be low. Be*s standard profile is set at 6.5dB. this however will fluctuate throughout the day as enviromental noise levels change.

    Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB /
This refers to the type of chipset used in the Bebox and at the DSLAM

    Loss of framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Frame losses due to noise on the line, which can be caused by local noise,ie. faulty domestic wiring and also can correspond to CRC error counters on the line

    Loss of signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
ADSL signal loss usually caused by faulty domestic wiring or an unfiltered item on the telephone line. Also worth checking for badly crimped RJ11 sockets and loose screws in junction boxes etc.

    Loss of power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Power loss which causes failed re-initialization of the DSL link

    Loss of link (Remote): 0
    Physical failure of the link

    Error seconds (Local/Remote): 6,060 / 0
The number of errors incurred in the physical link in upstream and downstream direction

    FEC errors (Up/Down): 0 / 2,158,750,888
These are error corrections implemented by the interleaving process between the modem and DSLAM in the exchange. If you are on fastpath there will be no errors reported here.

    CRC errors (Up/Down): 296 / 10,513
Known as a cyclic redundancy check used to verify the proper frame transmission between the transmitting and receiving end if these errors are too high it will mean the data has to be retransmitted an will slow the throughput transmision down. In extreme cases can lead to disconnections.

    HEC errors (Up/Down): 268 / 5,575)
Used to check and rectify the cell headers if these errors are too high it will slow the throughput transmision down, and can lead to instability of the connection.
    Hope that helps you Lowe

    Be* Speedtouch Stats Analysis

You can paste your stats in there and it will give you some info. Your stats seems normal for your line.

    Re: Anyone with O2 Broadband?

    Hello.. bumpage (sorry!)

I signed up for O2 at the start of March and was connected Thursday. My connection is much faster than BT but it seems to disconnect a few times a day. This can be ranging from every 2 hours to every 8 hours and it's really annoying when you're trying to play a game. Is this normal activity? Since I've only been connected less than a week ago? Here's my stats that you guys have been asking for over the past couple pages.

    Uptime: 0 days, 0:50:08
    Modulation: G.992.3 annex A
    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,209 / 4,726
    Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 1.63 / 16.56
    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.0 / 42.5
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 16.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Link (Remote): 0
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 40 / 0
    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,122
    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1,775 / 2
    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1,061 / 1
    Firmware is: 6.2.27.1

I phoned them and asked them to update my firmware but they said there isn't an update..

    Thanks,

    yohan

    Re: Anyone with O2 Broadband?

Don't forget you get a discount on O2 broadband if you're an existing O2 mobile customer. On renewal of my O2 mobile contract I was offered 50% off the discount rate for the life of my mobile contract. Currently paying £5/mth for the 16Meg plan. The physical service is the same as Be which I was happy with for over 1.5 years. Haven't used the technical support yet but it can't be much worse than Be which was horrible.

    Lesson One with ADSLMax :

Switch router on, LEAVE IT ONE, and let it alone for several days before risking an important online game

It'll resync loads, and get a little slower and slower but more n more stable.
