No. Lippy, I have not gotten that far yet. I did read somewhere on the web that it is darn difficult to find a proxy that is not blocked. The best bet is probably to have a good friend in the UK to function as a proxy, but that may put that person in jeopardy

Well it depends, if they are on a normal ADSL line, they probably have a dynamic IP, which means if they do get blocked (which is highly unlikely IMO with 1 person using it; how they going to find out) then they can just reconnect, under a different IP.

You know, it just struck me – I could simply pay for an annual license and then start downloading

That would be in the region of $260 (£140) and you probably still couldn't use it cos iPlayer is pretty much locked to the UK regardless of whether you have a license or not!

Where abouts are you in the US? I might consider a citizenship-swap.

Re: BBC2 won't let me watch

As I mentioned, I was born and lived 38 years in Sweden, then moved to New York (10 years), Boca Raton, Florida (5 years), Detroit, Michigan (6 years) and now, Cleveland, Ohio, since 2002. Not the most exciting city in the world, but it is rather nice. I live in a suburb, with ravines on three sides, so it is like living in the country.

    Where do you live?

As to the IP address issue, what if I used a UK Internet service provider?

    Quotes from BBC (http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.u...told_not_in_uk)

"Our Geo-IP technology system recognises IP addresses provided by UK-based internet service providers (ISPs). If BBC iPlayer doesn't recognise your address, you must contact your ISP as they are best placed to register your address."

So, it looks as if I hitch up with a UK service provider, I could watch BBC TV. However, as it costs about $40.00 a month here, and it probably is the same price in the UK, it would be too costly. And, I guess, even if I just get an e-mail address from a UK provider, it would still be my US-based SP that would issue my IP addresses (could someone confrirm that?).

Hm, since I am interested mostly in old TV programs, the looming international version might be okay. Looking forward to it.

    Regards,

    Hans L

"Rights agreements mean that BBC iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream (Click to Play) in the UK. However, BBC Worldwide is working on an international version, which we will make available as soon as possible."

    Interesting,

Re: BBC2 won't let me watch

I have no idea if it would be possible to get an IP from a UK ISP and use it with a US internet connection, I suspect there would be routing issues.

In reality, I think your best bet is to wait for BBC Worldwide to offer an international service.

Re: BBC2 won't let me watch

Funkstar, I think you are absolutely right. I'll wait until the international version is published, and then see if that satisfy my needs.

Thank you everybody for your valuable input. I will return to this issue if the int. version is not satisfactory.

    Best regards,

    Hans L

Re: BBC2 won't let me watch

Personally i think it is inevitable.

The BBC has such a wealth of programming in it's archives that it could make a lot of money from. It's just a question of when it puts this service together.
