Fairly quick, yes, coz Sky is unusable. Been thinking this for ages.
I'm on the "you have views of open fields and you must be punished" package with o2 as well. Pings are horrific, speeds are so so. If you game online, good luck.

I've lodged a ticket with them over my pings <fnar> I've been told it's all BT's fault and it'll be sorted in April.

It all started so well too.

    Re: Is my bandwidth bottlenecked?

I doubt you're physical line can support much more than 2-3mb/s. Do a line check on your postcode.
    http://www.broadband-finder.co.uk/br...ine-check.html

I used to have the same problem and also used AOL I was on there 8mb package but my line would only support 3mb, the AOL tech support were so dumb they did not understand this

Im now using Virgin Media and get the full 50mb from usenext and other high bandwidth servers

Holy poop, your earlier claim of "living in the sticks" is clearly lies

My "you have views of open fields and you must be punished" house can get 1.5 max.

well... it's a village. I can see a field if I stood on a ladder. On top of my house.

    Re: Is my bandwidth bottlenecked?

You need to see what you ADSL sync speeds are doing not your download rates. Could be a line issue that has developed.

    Re: Is my bandwidth bottlenecked?

No, it's just that Sky are crap. End of. Come 5pm every day, they say "right, let's throttle back and spoil everyone's fun". At midnight, without fail, they lift the restriction and VROOM! up goes the speed again. Between midnight and 5pm, great. 5pm until midnight: bad. Every day. Like clockwork. the connection is stable, FTP is blocked from 5pm onwards, it's all rather regular to be a line fault.

O2 router arriving today, will be with them (estimated) on Wednesday. Will keep you informed. Until then, I'm going to be mowing the field on top of my house.

It's more of a paddock, really. I have a couple of roof ponies up there.

    Re: Is my bandwidth bottlenecked?

O2 are (touchwood) the nuts. Good speed, able to Skype in the evenings, no drop outs yet, even the O2 router box thingy is nice. PNP works well with Azureus. Enabling the SuperUser features of the router was not much fun, and you have to google it as they don't tell you about it, but so far so good.

    Re: Is my bandwidth bottlenecked?

The O2/BeBox = Thompson SpeedTouch based, not that great

Most people go with the Sky branded Netgear router, unbrand it and reflash with the standard and newer netgear firmware
