Twice today the connection to my pc using the belkin wireless n adapter has been lost. No idea why :| I have no other wireless devices in my room at all. About 2 weeks ago I had the same problem and thought it was my wireless mouse. But it seems it was no the mouse adapter at all. At the moment its sitting on 58.5 Mbps where it normal ranges from 65 to 72 Mbps.
Router settings are all ok!! All the lights on the router indicate that everything is ok. Seems to only happen on my pc with the wireless adapter. Had my laptop on for the last 2 hours and its signal strength and speed (54 Mbps) are stable.
Is this just some odd router problem??
Would it be worth getting something like this ??

I would have thought it unlikely that your wireless mouse would have enough power to disrupt your wifi.
There are loads of things that can cause drops, many of which you have no control over. Microwaves are a favorite, same with high powered motors and air conditioning systems.
If that card and your router can operate on the 5GHz band, then the changes of getting interference from another device or network is greately reduced.
However, it could just be that the Belkin is pants. Wouldn't be the first time.
No microwave has been used today!!
But you could be right about Belkin being pants lol Its just odd that for two weeks everything was ok hmm
Got another odd problem!
On my wireless laptop and wired home pc the speed test shows 9.1 mb. But on my wireless pc with the belkin wireless adapter its showing me 5mb or 4.7mb on the speed test. I have done a virus scan = clean.
Last few days signal strength has been swapping between low, good and occasionally very good. With the speeds being 72mps down to 58.5mbps.
Not entirely sure what to do :|
I don't trust wireless to perform anywhere near what you would expect to get from all the hype.
Just started a test on my netbook. Copying a 1GB file from my server. It's connect at 54mbps to my router, and I'm transfering data at a whopping 1.1MB/sec according to W7. Earlier I copied a bunch of media over ethernet at about 12MB/sec, so it's not the netbook being slow, it's the wireless. The only other thing using the wireless at the moment is my Squeezebox Radio, but thats just playing 6Music off the internet, not a lot of bandwidth.
Basically, wireless sucks. Use it for web browsing, perhaps gaming and anything else low bandwidth. I never copy files over wireless it almost physically hurts to see it going so slowly.
Yeah I expect wirless to not preform that great all the time. But a few days ago on my pc in my room I was getting 9.2 mb in the speed test. This issue now is just annoying me lol
Only thing installed recently is a printer.
wireless signal and transfer rates can be effected by simple things like the weather.
BTW, that test above was done about a meter away from the router.
I'll try it tomorrow see what happens. I took my laptop to my room as well for the test it had a good signal (no movement) and 54mbps speed. Speed test shoul 9.2mb.
I know I may be stupid over this but it got my worried when the speed test did not show the same as the other two devices.
speed test is probably being limited by the wireless, not the ADSL.
I'm sure that its not the router causing the problem! My laptop still says 9.3 mb on the speed test and th e pc in my room still says 5mb or there about (although this morning it did say 5.9mb)
Can't find anything wrong with my pc, that would cause the speed showing in the test to drop from 9.3mb to 5mb.
Pc still in the same place as last week when I did get 9.3mb on it! And nothing is interfering (no cordless phone or microwave nearby) Can't really understand it unless I have missed something?
Well hit a brick wall Done virus scan, done speed test from laptop in same room as the pc, and only new thing installed is some printer drivers. So annoying when the problem can no be figured out
Annoying I know, but could just be "one of those things"
Did you actually try changing the channel? Simple thing but normally fixes these issues for me... Can be a bit of trial and error to find a clear channel.
Just a thought: what are the aerials on the PCs wireless nic like? can you move them, change their orientation etc?
Perhaps something out with your control has changed, and the antennas in the laptop are coping better with the change than your PC.
This is why wireless is the poor relation in the networking world. Simple thing can make a huge difference, but narrowing them down can be a full time job.
On my pc its just a wireless stick belkin adapter. The adapter has not moved and the router antennas are as they were (can only point them up).
I would try and change the channel but just started a post-grad course so under a mountain of work atm. I'll give a channel change a go in a few weeks maybe.
And Funkstar as you say- it could just be one of those things.
