    Hopefully links will work
    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=48449

    Quickfind code is 48449

You plug your computers in to that using a network card.
Then plug the phone cable from the router in to your phone line.
All your phones must be plugged in to filters

If you only want to have two computers on adsl then this might be better,

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=57418

it has one usb port for one pc and one ethernet port for the other. I've had mine for about four months and had no problems

The type of cable you use to connect the router to the computer is an rj45 network cable make sure it’s a straight one and not a crossover cable or you may run into problems. You plug the cable into the network port on your pc, if you don't have one you can always buy a cheap pci network card.

got a router, but still not sure about the ISP, im thinking about pipex SOLO 250, which is £17.99 month, free everything.
what does monthly bandwith of 'unlimited' mean, some ISP's i looked had 2GB rather than 'unlimited', which one is better. because i will download alot, and play counter strike 15 hours week!!!!

From the website: Monthly Bandwidth Quota - this is the amount of data that can be sent and received. So in a month you could only download and upload, for example, 1 gigabyte of data. Therefore unlimited is better, I would go for unlimited especially as you download a lot.

Yes, you can get a router with a wireless access point and some Ethernet cable ports, e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=59951 (Quick find code = 59951)

Wireless routers usually work the same as wired routers and as they still have 4 ethernet ports you do not have to use the wireless capabilities. So I think you can use them to do both wired and wireless if you want.

Sorry this might be obvious, but do either the eBuyer or Dabs Value ADSL modems listed above act as a firewall, e.g. SPI? If not which would you recommend? I would prefer the modem and router in one box, but if it would be cheaper to go for separates then let me know.

It's really worth doing some research on which ISP your going to go with, after all you don't want to be running into problems just because you went with the cheapest of the cheap.

Not that i'm saying you will because pipex are very good but i'd take a look at www.adslguide.org.uk especially the compare ISP's feature and the forums, i'm sure people are asking this sort of question every 5 minutes over there.

If it's a router then it'll probably have a BSD OS on it, and a firewall setup similar to IPTables.

Dont' know if that's any help to you.
