Just quoting what the email said man. Very disturbing to see that they are imposing 250KBps P2P limits on the mid package.

Anyone knows if you renew your contract but stay on the same package, do you automatically get moved to their new version of your old package and get capped ?

Yes you do get capped, if you start a new contract with them, i made this mistake, get lots of timeouts and even disconnect from steam alot now, also to download a 2.9mb file from steam update took my damn pc 15mins! i was not impressed and will be leaving O2, this is such a stupid mistake by them. Happy customer no more

BTW gaming is almost impossible now....

    It is.
They are giving all members 30 days from receipt of notification to cancel penalty free.

I just have and have gone with BE.

Thats the exact problem i now have if i leave who do i go with i am paying £20 ish a month for line rental and broadband and i cant find it cheaper anywhere else

Best deal i can find is sky unlimted with landline for £21.25 with 3 months free broadband £30 and possible £50 quidco cashback

i found the info saying you can leave without penalty here

    http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/pca.j...-blank-_-blank

I just spoke to o2 and my price increase is apparently minimal (something they never said in the letter or email they just said a price increase) so i cant cancel my contract without paying until spetember so am stuck with them for now.

    Re: O2 Price rise

Thanks for the heads up, I received the email a few days ago but haven't been bothered to read it.

Might see if there are any alternatives then, whilst £9.50 is not much to pay a 26% increase I think is a little excessive.

    Re: O2 Price rise

Think I may head towards Virgin, I've been getting fed up with BT recently too (long story) and now O2 with this, I think it's a good time to be rid of both of them. Whilst I'm at it I'll move my mobile contract too.

Down side is Virgin do traffic management, I don't download excessively nor have time for much online gaming so I don't think that'll be a big issue for me, but added bonus of extra TV channels.

Anyone with experience of Virgin traffic management?

Yes...If I could swear, I would, it was bleeping horrendous.

I *never* used P2P or did any major downloading and they would randomly cap me. They often used to flag the wrong apps as P2P traffic, so some games would get hit really bad and be unplayable.
Granted, it's been a while since I've been with them, but It would take a lot for me to go back - so much so, we have Virgin in this house and I paid to have an extra line in with ADSL so I didn't have to put up with them.

When Virgin work they are great, but when they go wrong....you have no idea what you're in for. It took about 6 months for them to sort out my bill after a mistake they made. Utterly useless customer service unless you're buying something.

I don't suppose you were in a high cable density area? May have to reconsider then......

    Re: O2 Price rise

After a quick analysis of packages that I need ( 20Mbps Broadband with UL Dwnlds + Eve&Weekend Free Landline + Line rental ), I have come up with this :

    - VIRGIN £35pm
    - SKY £21.25pm / 3 months FREE / £50 QUIDCO
    - TESCO £19.40pm / 3 months FREE / £35 QUIDCO & £30 Tesco Giftcard *BBGD11* [18m contract]
    - BE £29pm / £40 QUIDCO
    - ORANGE £19pm / £70 QUIDCO [18m contract + Need Orange/T-mobile no. or £5 extra]

Now, I have to google for reviews about FUP and its enforcement for SKY, TESCO and ORANGE

EDIT : Huge number of -ve reviews for all 3! ARGH!

Definitely missing leaving Virgin Broadband, if only the broadband charges weren't so steep with them for the basic package.

    Re: O2 Price rise

I'm with O2 broadband and haven't had an email? I'm on the old pro (~6 months). Really hoping to avoid the traffic shaping (I don't P2P but stream by the bucket load - iplayer and lovefilm on BLu-ray player) so looks like I'll be looking elsewhere in 6 months. Shame as they've been damn good otherwise.
