Router Problems

Last week blueyonder cable was installed in my flat and I've been having problems getting it working. The modem works and I can access the internet if I plug it directly into any of the PCs in my flat. We were given a router with the flat which is a "torspoal 802.11b wlan router". This router worked for the previous occupants in an identical setup and its letting each of the computers access each other.

However, if I connect the modem to the router, I cant access the internet from any of the computers. I phoned telewest and they said it should work as you dont need to register MAC addresses. What else can I try? If anyone has any suggestions they would be much appretiated as I'm really stuck on this one.

The modem connects to the router?
If it's an ADSL router it should have a modem built in.... I wouldn't have thought it'd work if you connect an external modem to it

Blueyonder is cable, not ADSL. The cable modem has an ethernet port built in to which the router connects. I'm surprised that they told you that you didn't have to register a MAC address, since I always have when plugging in a different device.

If it looks like:



try connecting to the router with your browser (it should be .1 on whatever network address your machines are on - so might be http://192.168.0.1); if you can get into it, then if you can get into it, reset it to factory defaults, reconnect, then look for an option to clone the MAC address of your PC.

I have just had Blueyonder (Telewest) cable installed too. (750K/s ) Their servers do instant MAC addressing - just reconnect, turn everything off and on again, and 'BOOM' it all works!

The cable guy had set it up on one computer with USB (whilst I was out). I just unplugged, attached both computers to my (wired) router, plugged the cable box into the router with RJ45 (having set everything to 'Automatically detect settings'). It just worked.
