Do i have to have a landline to have broadband

Well after 3 weeks of trying to find ISP's that are unlimited and cheap enough for 3 students to pay for (other 2 flatmates dont have a pc)

I wanted to get a 1mb option but it seems i need a phone line and number for them, are there any that dont require a landline, as a phone in the house would just lead to more bills even if the landline is bargain etc etc

We want broadband but no phone line is this possible?

Sorry to sound like a noob, well i am with ISPs and broadband

ahem anyone want to lend a hand

For ADSL yes you need a land line, NTL and telewest you need cable TV ( i dont know if they do an internet only option. All is not lost however, a few people i know are on the netvigator wireless BB, i dont have a clue about where you can and cant get it but the prices are very reasonable. £28 a month for 1 meg iirc.

you need a standard BT phone line for ADSL.

you might be able to get a incoming calls only tarrif with BT - I think the line rental is £10 a month ( less for incoming only ? )

if you live in a digital cabled area you can get broadband via them ( eg. NTL or blueyonder )

failing that you might get access via a wireless community LAN if one runs in your area

well i had hoped for telewest ya see with their 750k and upgrade to 1.5mb later on, but it seems they havent quite made it to my area yet.

I phoned telewest and asked how long it will take after going online and checking (online it said i could btw), they informed me it isnt quite there yet so cant do telewest

    found this from here http://www.resnet.bristol.ac.uk/broa...oosing#nophone

Their next service, fast enough to be called a proper broadband connection, is £27.99 a month for a 750 kbit/sec connection. If Telewest is available in your area and you want a proper broadband connection but definitely no phone line it is a good option to consider

guess it has to be adsl then...nuts

I found 512k BBand and phone for £30 a month but was hoping for something a bit meatier
