thats very strange,
I'm using BT busines broadband in one office and go over 100gb on a regular basis, and have never had any problems.
the reason I ask is there is a clause in the contract that specificly says no limitations.
Have you spoke to BT about this ? did they confirm the reason you where down graded was for capping ?
It is Inevitable.....
If you've got a bit of cash for this then IDNET are in my opinion one of the best ISP's you can get IDNET
I work for an ISP stinger.
IT used to be viable offering unlimited products because for every customer caning the connection 24/7 there where usually a lot of Super light users. As other ISPs started capping products and the unlimited ISPs dwindled the running costs rockets.
As you get a pile of Leechers using their connection to the max then it becomes a big drain and costs the ISP money to run.
This article shows the pricing of Bt centrals which will give you a bit of an idea just how expensive it is.

althought ntl claim to have a cap, they've never said anything to me
downloaded way over 75gb for a few months in a row, steam updates, linux distro's and 'other'
never had a problem with ntl, only had a downtime of a few hours once or twice (but it was planned)
No that's incorrect - it costs an ISP a helluva lot of money to support heavy users as BT charge a lot of money for the pipes that the ISP's have onto the backbone. The few leechers spoil it for the rest I'm afraid (the OP probably being one of them )
God know what you download if you're consistently doing over 100GB...I very much doubt it's payed for anyway
to be fair with Video on Demand And HD video downloads it is feasible to download over 100 gig but you would prolly need to watch a few films a day to bust a 100 gig cap

tesco do unlimited deals, from £18 to £25 depending on the line speed you want.
i'd be interested to see what their full T&Cs say about traffic shaping and downloading before signing up to them. I can't find anything on their site.
Stinger you need to remember that although the cap is 30 gig the majority of users will not use that much.
The average web user will use a couple of gig a month at most.
Basically the ISps work on the idea that the majority of their customers will use very little connection so they can sustain the ones that hit their cap.
Oddly, this is somewhat of a catch 22. Because of low-cost solutions like £12 p/m for 1gig or less access, this has in turn caused less and less "truly" unlimited packages.
Until we are talking about ADSL2, and other such technologies, I'm afraid this trend of caps/shaping/fair usage is only set to rise.
Have a good look and you will find something that suits you best, but don't expect to be able to hit the theoretical 1.2T max p/m of ADSLMAX
The big problem is Ofcom.
BEcause BT have such a big grasp on the infrastructure of DSL in this country ofcom decided that it was unfair so BT would not be allowed to be competitive until there are about 1-1.5 million LLU and cable customers.
