ok, thanks for your suggestions guys, and as for tiscali, i am currently with them......
i really wish i could get Be, however i cant
as for "fair usage policies are a good thing", so, you like your ISP telling you what you can do with a service you pay them for, and spying on your internet communications?
demon have an unfair usage policy
bt yahoo dont seem to do an unlimited plan... correct me if i am wrong here...
tesco look ok, but are only 2mb, which is a shame.
aquiss look interesting, i think i might go with them unless i find something better
well, thanks for your help guys.
though, please dont stop making suggestions if you have any more!
i am actually currently only on a 2mb service, but i live quite close to my local exchange (i would, estimate, somewhere around only a mile away) so i would guess when i get an 8mb service it should be quite high
i live 300-400m from my exchange and this is my synched speeds
DownStream Connection Speed 19733 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1313 kbps
hmm, well, i just found this provider through extensive searching....

what do you think? i cant see any limits or FUP, does anyone know anything about them?
(i should point out now, i am a confirmed atheist before anyone asks)
I'm not unhappy about packet shaping provided it's done properly and openly. Plusnet introduced their Ellacoya traffic management tool which was mis-classifying and hence wrongly prioritising packets. This annoyed me, along with the whole losing of mail, underhand way of making changes, complete lack of respect for Joe User etc so I moved. My new ISP have been open, the techies know what they're talking about and things are a whole world better.
changed from be as had quite a few probs unstable line and not desired speed (was around 4mpbs in lucky times) and now got aol 1mbps oh well at least its stable! lol
before you pick up an adsl check what is the areas bw output and how far you are from there center (the further you are the more you have to worry)
I suppose you'r rather the internet is impossible for anything other than P2p applications and email then since thats all it could be used for if it wasn't for fair usage policies.
Or do you think that other people should subsidise the usage of people that just take the buscuit with their broadband?
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
It depends on your point of view - marketing something as 'unlimited' and then pretending your users knew you meant 'time' not 'use' has always looked distinctly dodgy to me. ISPs are well aware of this, and that's why the actual terms of use are hidden away in FUPs making it very complicated to choose an ISP. Legal it might be, but it's morally rather dubious..
The fact of the matter is that we're hamstrung in the UK by an encumbant telco with an outdated network unable to provide the kind of services people see in other countries at a far lower cost.
Dangel, you could always get a leased line or private circuit, they are meant for 24/7 unlimited use and have a 1/1 ratio.
they may be more up your street
It is Inevitable.....
