I think thats the problem, a large ammount of the people complaining (not all) are home users who are just raping the network with bit torrent 24x7

This is not acceptable unless your ISP has no restrictions.
    It is Inevitable.....

    .........there fine with it!!

    bargain!
Not true, demon have a 50 GB limit (or do have for anyone on DSL MAX) and then will cut your speed to 12~14 KB/sec 8 am to 10 pm.

They were one of the last good Isp's but not anymore. The other thing most of the people calling the 'heavy' users hogs, is that the Isp's use contention and each line has ~50 users on it so they are making 50x the money for each line/VP. I joined them only because of the 'no limits to TCP/IP traffic' part in the contract, but they changed that.

The real problem is that BT changed the pricing when VOIP started because they did not want to loose their monopoly and we are now the only country that has Internet data charged by the data amount vs the connection count that is why we pay the most for out Internet connectivity, and all this 'health of the network' talk is just silly they (the Isp's) dont want to spend money on the network when they can just tell us to not use out connections and keep the money.

Its just like the bloke at the petrol station telling me not to use my car as he wants to re-sell my unused petrol to another for more money.

It is true, as I and many other users that are 'really' going over the now 50/60 GB (50 home 60 home office) per 30 day limit are speed limited just as I said.

There is a thread (in fact many) about this in the think BB (was ADSL guide) forums, and to prove the point here is the like to the post in case you cant find it yourself.

Well you will have to wait unlil I have posted the needed amount of post to do a URL, but if you go to the forums (of the usenet groups we (Demon users) have been talking about it) and look for the thread called...

I got activated with Be yesterday, my exchange was activated about 2 weeks ago (woodley). On ADSLmax i was getting about 6.2mb i now get 10.5mb, i was expecting atleast double .

Still if youd have told me 2 years ago that id have a 10.5/1mb connection with unlimited dl/s id have told you were nuts. This was mainly to BT telling me i could only get 512k up untill about 18 months ago, but also because i never thought i'd see LLU on my exchange.

So far its been very nice sub 10ms pings on UK gaming servers and very stable.

Tiscali are unlimited on all their packages.

1 Gb speed is £12.99 Per Month
2 Gb Speed is £14.99 Per Month
Max is around 8 Gb Speed and I believe it is about £18 Per Month

Had a few probs last July with connection on their end and the exchange but since then it has been running smooth.

I know I've pimped them already, but Aquiss have been more than enough for me. I seriously can't see how anyone would need more that the 300Gb offpeak/30Gb peak that my package gets me (but they do offer higher usage packages!)

I was with nildram, that was 50gb peak and unlimited between 12pm and 8am. Although recently they have been shaping traffic and generally being total rubbish. My line would drop every day and calling their support would mean a 45 minute wait on the phone. Ive rang Be twice now and got straight through both times.

Dont go with Tiscali, there Unmetered is sort of a con as its not stricly unmetered - if you go over what is estimated to be 1 GB a month between 5pm and 11pm you are FUP'ed. Also there network is virtually unusable for a lot of people (512kbps speeds for Max customers etc). To top it all off they also have very high pings for some customers (600ms+) at present.

If your after a true unmetered service go to one of the Enta.net resellers, they offer supposidly good service - well dslzoneuk.net lists one its resellers and them as the best ISP's available. Also they only have 1 month contracts so if you dont like them can quickly switch.

I have been with Be* 6 months and constantly hit over 150Gb a month. Have never been called once and have been getting 15mb/s. Bargain if you ask me

Tiscali have a 1 GB per day cap, but they let you go over it so that the next month you speed gets limited to 5 KB/sec, and they limit all p2p and usenet speed, when I was with them I could not even post text to usenet it was so slow, in the end I used dialup to read and post to usenet.

There is a reason why they have add's running night and day and have quite a few other Isp's under nother names, users are only there until they can get out of their CONtract.

Im glad Im on Zen classic still

THey are putting a 100 gig cap on things but working for them I understand the reasoning behind it.

If you have a good usenet host then they usually offer different ports so you can download on port 25 in most cases which unless your isp is really dodgy wont be throttled.

I've been with BE for about 6 months now and they are fantastic.

Service has been up 100% of the time and I've never heard anything from them despite me downloading constant large files over Xbox Live etc.
