    Probably stupid memory question

Am oc'ing my E6400 (with DS4) and have reduced my memory to 5-5-5-15 in the BIOS with a multipler of 2.0.

I thought this meant that with running my FSB @ 375 the RAM is running at 750Mhz i.e a bit under the 800Mhz rated speed.

However in CPU-Z log file I get memory frequency 375.5 (1:1).

    Could someone please explain thanks

    A muliplier of 2?

    Do you mean 2.0v?

Your ram is running at 1:1, but it is DDR, which is double data rate, 2 x 375 = 750.

And now, I'm going to Tescos.

in the BIOS there's a setting which is "System Memory Multiplier"
    See here

Not sure what that setting does then I guess

What you said makes perfect sense. (DDR = 2x) and as per the title of my thread was indeed a stupid memory question

Different manufacturers have different ways of wording stuff, so its not a stupid question.

    Can you change the setting?

    yep goes 2.00, 2.50, 2.66, 3.00,3.33,4.0+

when increased the memory frequency goes up accordingly in the BIOS.

    i.e. FSB 375 with a 2.00 SPD(mem multiplier) gives 700 speed
with 2.5 gives 938 speed and so on

just confused that cpuz speed says 375 @ 1:1 whereas in the BIOS it says 750 at 2 to 1

If your FSB is at 375 and the divider is set to 1:1, the ram will be running at 750mhz.

CPU-Z is showing the actual value of the FSB without any quad pumped, or double data rate nonsense

    OK thanks. So the 2.0 setting is 1:1 due to DDR and then 2.5 would be 1.25:1 = 468.75 / 937.5 ?

Bloody hell you need a degree in maths for this

No idea what the other settings are, the manual should make it all become clear as mud really
