thanx a lot Clunk.
Just one additionl query.is it worth of upgrading my ram to pc2-8500??what speed will i get because
my motherboard officially supports upto 800 mhz.

Well, the speed that your RAM runs at, will depends on what speed the FSB is running at.
1:1 - PC2-8500 is good for up to around 500FSB (ish), which would be 4.5Ghz. Clearly you arent going to get that high, and in that case, you can use a divider to run the RAM faster than the FSB.
Edit: That would be 4.5Ghz on a cpu with a 9x multi, and 4.oGhz on an 8x multi.

Hi Clunk,I tried a bit overclocking yesterday night, not very much, only making 2.13ghz to 2.32 Ghz.
I am posting the results.
(1)
CPU Frequency - 275 Mhz
CPU temp. - 49-49.5 C
MB temp. - 38 C
V core Voltage - 1.296 V
3.3 V Voltage - 3.344 V
5 V Voltage - 4.966 V
12 V Voltage - 12.249 V
Processor speed - 2208 Mhz.
(2)
CPU frquency - 281 Mhz
CPU temp. - rised to 50 C then came back to 48-48.5 C
MB temp. - 38 C
V core Voltage - 1.312/1.32 V
As per AI Suite - CPU temp(45 C),MB temp.(38 C),FSB(1127)/(1691.45 Mhz).CPU voltage 1.312V.
Processor speed - 2.25 Ghz.
(3)
At processor speed 2.28 Ghz the readings are more or less same.
(4)
At last,I changed CPU frequency to 289 Mhz.
FSB - 1156 Mhz
CPU Temp. - rose to 52 C but then came to 49/49.5 C.
MB Temp. - 38 C
V core Voltage - 1.32 V
Processor speed - 2.32 Ghz
Now plz tell me whether these readings are normal or not.i guess i have to try to decrease the V core voltage.I want to do that tonight.I tested my system for 6 hours.
And one little query.AI Booster is showing CPU ratio = 8.Is it the CPU multiplier? If so,then why is
AI Suite showing 0289.03 * 06.0(=1734 Mhz)?when actual fsb is 1156 Mhz(from Bios)?
**All these overclocking is done by only changing the CPU frequency from AI Tuning**
**Bios version is 1004 (I have to have the latest Bios ?)**
**CPU mutiplier option maximum=8,minimum=6**
Please read the guide from start to finish, we dont use AI tune at all, everything is done from the bios.
silly mistake,i did everything from bios.
please let me know how good the results are or (how bad).
well ok,i will uninstall it tonight.
by the way what do you think about the results?
is the v-core voltage too high for 2.32 Ghz?i did not try to lower it,though.it was set to auto.
For starters, you wont get very far with 667Mhz RAM, you will be lucky to get past 2.7Ghz. RAM can be picked up really cheaply at the moment, and to overclock properly, you will need some new stuff.
I notice in your sig that you are wanting some dominators/reapers, well, I would also say to have a look at the Crucial Ballistix RAM as well.
What CPU cooling are you using?
Yes, you shouldnt need to add any vcore to get where you are now really.
right now,i am using the stock intel cooler.
well, should i try to decrease the v core a bit??
and can i go towards higher cpu frequency??
I would advise you not to even try to overclock using 667Mhz ram and the stock cooler, they just arent made for it.
You need a half decent cpu cooler and a minimum of PC2-6400 RAM.
If you still want to do it, please follow the guide from start to finish. All the info that you need is in there.
you have really frightened me Clunk.
my system right now is overclocked at 2.32 Ghz.
i will set to default settings tonight and after getting decent ram and cpu cooler,i will again disturb you.
Hope you wont mind.
Thanks a lot for your advice.
You will be fine with a minimal overclock, but you cant really expect too much from it, thats all I was saying
Always glad to help.
that is really nice of you.
well i thought from 2.13 to 2.32 Ghz is really a minimal overclock and it wont affect my system.
(i have decided to go for Dominator TwinX PC2-8500 and Zalman CNPS9700 CPU cooler).
its not related to the thread though.
Been lurking around this thread for awhile, some good hints
Know i have a bit more money to throw at parts to here is my average attempt for stable 24/7 use
Not sure why it reports it as a qx6700
Have had it up to 3.7 however runs a bit warm for my liking and at the moment nothing even tests it anyways
Nice
How come you are running the RAM at such loose timings though?
