Additional thought: From an environmental standpoint turn back on the power saving features in the bios if you turned them off initially to avoid problems while finding the best OC.. Irregardless of what your best overclocking result is you likely don't need to waste the extra power while your system is idling or doing low intensity tasks.

It was interesting seeing your responses to my post. I guess it depends on how each individual person handles criticism and what they read into each others postings. What my posting lacked in tact and gentility, it made up for (I hoped) in a sincere desire to improve it for Beginners.... My apology on re-reading it as most things I write; I did not intend it to be an insulting or bad mouthing piece about your guide but rather a request poorly stated..................................

I'm still waiting for you to show me, where in this guide, I mentioned the application of thermal paste in this way.
At the time of writing this guide, the P5B deluxe was the board of choice, and unfortunately, the power saving features didn't play nicely with an overclocked system, the same goes for the P5K deluxe using the later P35 chipset. So, unless you have some more recent data of your own to bring to the table regarding power saving, your comments are pointless.Additional thought: From an environmental standpoint turn back on the power saving features in the bios if you turned them off initially to avoid problems while finding the best OC.. You need to realise that this part of the guide was aimed at (quoted from the first few lines of the guide)"people who aren’t necessarily “enthusiasts“, but would like to benefit from the extra bump in speed that can be had by overclocking their Core 2 Duo CPU."
It is not an excercise in power saving, nor a journey into great detail about the finer points of overclocking - it is what it is, A basic overclocking guide to get the average person up and running relatively quickly, without having to resort to reading endless pages of meaningless stats and figures.
It's very easy, if you want to be envoironmentally friendly, don't overclock your system. When you overclock your system, you use more power, and we wouldn't want that would we?
Alternatively, buy a laptop.
No offence taken, but I would really like you to show me the Arctic silver application instructions that I apparently did incorrectly, as I can't seem to find them.===============

Loosey-goosey? Name dropping now are we? Next you'll be mentioning how you are close personal showbiz friends with Turkey-Lurkey.Yep, thats why I avoided using a combine harvester in my guide.
Good guide need three more posts before I can upload screenies tho..............
Wonderfull guide!
Tommorow after Ive recieved my 2 gig 6400 ram from the mail ill have a shot at it.
My goal is 3.2 Ghz meaning a FSB of 356.
My temps at 2.4 ghz are 38 C idle and 48 C under load, pretty nifty.
Holding the 62 C- 64 C line as a maximum temp for the overclock though, wish me luck!
ok...
I'm up to 3.2 ghz.on my E6600 ...fsb 350 ...stock voltages....
Done a 12 hour stress test....
idle 24c .....57-58c under load.....sound about right gents?

Ive clocked my e6600 to FSB 356 now. Under full orthos my max temp is 62/64 C. Is this good or a little too much? Its stable for the rest.
Ive noticed that now Ive overclocked...in the boot up screen......my ram is now pc4200 interleaved...instead of pc6400...is this normal....
Thx in advance..

im looking at getting a Q6600 and 4 sticks of
BL12864AA1065 - 1GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM , DDR2 PC2-8500 from Crucial.com
and a 8800gt
will i be able to overclock nicely and get some good performance out of it enough to run latest games ect ect
get it from Redstore.com - Crucial 2GB (1 GB x 2) Ballistix Tracer 240-pin DIMM (with LEDs), DDR2 PC2-8500 Memory Module
I posted it in my bargain post and 3 of us already have our ram
its cheaper than from crucial.
my bargain post has the black tracer ones with led's but its only about £2 more.
