My system info is as follows:

    CPU: Q6600 G0
    Mobo: Asus P5K Premium
Ram: 4GB dual shared OCZ Gold
Vid: X800XL Water cooled (soon to be upgraded to Geforce 8800 Ultra water cooled)

Cooling: Zalman Reserator 1 (water tank removed internal pump) + SWIFTECH MCW50 VGA + Zalman ZM-WB2 CPU Block + Swiftech MCR320 with 3 X 120mm quiet fans + Swiftech MCP655 pump
I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

If you are asking if you should manually set the RAM timings and voltages, then the answer is a definite YES

You can use the little fans that come withy the motherboard, but that isnt the area that gives you your motherboard temp.

There is a motherboard temp sensor on the P5K.

It is in an unfortunate place, as it gets residual heat from the CPU and mosfet areas, so blowing a fan over it, will give you more accurate temps, but its nothing to worry about.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

Now I got the FSB to 400 with cpu voltage at 1.4625 I believe. I had the PC run at temp of 45 avg per core.

Now after I updated my WinXP 64bit the PC boots into windows but then when I place the cursor onto the toolbar it is represented as an hourglass icon as if the PC is thinking. This longs for several minutes...I am able to move the mouse and press the CapLock (light goes ON/OFF) but I am not able to click on anything or get the Start menu to show.

Is it a software issue or ram?

It does the same thing once I bring back the settings in BIOS to default.

Try changing this to AUTO: PCI-E Frequency: 100

Try putting some voltage on your vdimm your still at stock voltage.
    CPU Voltage: Auto
Just try upping it a notch at a time until you get some stability using orthos.

    luck

    ok. I just changed that.

the thing is, if i turn it off and turn on immediately, it can start. sometimes if I turn if off for 1 or 2 hours, then when i turn power on, it's like this.

Re: C2D Overclocking Guide For Beginners P5K Add-On

THe symtoms you describe are those of a failed oc as you experienced with the
    'overclock failed'
message. A failing oc can take on a variety of smptoms , of which you have your share.

As i said earlier that's to be expected running 9x400fsb at stock vcore. Given that the steps in vcore are 0.0125v you may need to increase it a good few steps before the symptoms go away. Of course increasing vcore will also impact your temps so keep an eye on them as well.

Sounds like duff RAM to me.

Take out one of the sticks and test with memtest v1.70 test 5, then try that same stick in all the slots, doing the same test, then do the same with your other stick/s.

You may find that you have one dying/dead stick of RAM.

Do you have any other DDR2 to try?

I am assuming that you have set the voltage for the RAM manually?

    What RAM is it?

And have you flashed to the latest bios?

Can you put your system specs in your "my system" bit?
