    Errr, who rattled your cage then buddy ?

    I stand by my statement, I shall repeat it for you as you seem incapable of understanding it...

    In his original post, I saw no mention of the rating of his current PSU, only a brand name, so I said...

    IT IS POSSIBLE HE MAY NEED A MORE POWERFUL PSU DEPENDING WHAT HE HAS NOW, THEN I ASK WHAT RATING HE HAS SO I CAN CONFIRM IF HE NEEDS A MORE POWERFUL ONE OR NOT

    I didn't come on here to offer my help just to take abuse from the likes of you! If you have nothing constructive to say, then say nothing at all, your helping no one and insulting others.

    Sorry for the off topic post, but morons like that REALLY GET ON MY TITS.

    Sorry guys - its the antec 380w PSU - probably not up to the job - especially if I go for the quad core;-)

    Sorry for my off topic post wither2000, please disregard it, it was not directed at you, I originally posted my question about the rating of your PSU on page 1 of this thread and I got a rather insulting response from someone else for my trouble, when all I was trying to do was help you out.

    My personal experience. best thing that might happen - the rig simply will nor start. you don't want to know the worst thing

    Re: Upgrading system - advice please

    If you want to bring the total down, then a lesser c2d and just 2gb of memory is fine, it'll still cope well with the vast majority of current games.

    It's the graphics card that tends to have a major effect on games, also it'll be very easy to stick in some extra memory if 2gb starts to be problematic.

    Although at that price the e6750 is amazeingly good value.

    Re: Upgrading system - advice please

    Thanks for the advice - as I upgrade infrequently, and have been reading around, I now think that the quad 6600 would probably be most futureproof and cost effective, especially if I can find that little bit more in the budget. I don't think this change in CPU would affect the rest of the shoping list?

    P5K (Intel P35 chipset) should be fine with quad core CPU out of the box

    Re: Upgrading system - advice please

    Todays offer on scan for the following was too much for the credit card to resist:

    * Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, S775, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail
    * 2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP
    * 650W Xclio X12S4P4 Modular SLi U-Quiet 14cm Fan 87%+ Efficiency Quad+12v EPS 4SATA 4 PCI-E
    * Abit IP-35, iP35 Express, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

    All for £316

    Toss in a 320MB BFG Technology 8800GTS Overclocked, PCI-E, Mem 1600MHz, GPU 550MHz
    £190

    and the new budget gaming system is almost there at under £520. I know its not the corsair PSU but hopefully it should power things OK?

    Going to save a bit by sticking with XP pro for the time being - plus a few people have had some vista problems especially withy power hungry games such as Vanguard. Will I be able to transfer my copy of XP from the old to new machine with so many component changes with out problems? Or will it be picked up as an already registered copy?

    I'm doing pretty much the same thing and reloading XP is bit of a grey area. If your copy's a retail version you'll be fine, if it's OEM, by rights you should buy a new copy when you get a new motherboard, but I understand there are ways around it...
