But bad connections lead to other issues too. Bad connections to ground will cause ground bounce which if bad enough will lead to mis-read bits which is obviously bad news.
And increased inductance/resistance on signal lines will create a response in the line that could be outside its spec, which would again lead to errors.
I would be very interested to see what the signals coming out of a chip like that look like with various "qualities" of socket.
I guess if the only reported issues are during extreme overclocking, then the connections are probably good enough that the problems outlined above don't manifest.
My understanding of electronics and the issues which are being reported is that it will reduce the usable life of any CPU and motherboard affected by this socket due to the damage it can also. My main concern would be arcing where inadequate contact is being made to the pads. With a stock heatsink and at full load it is likely that there would be damage caused to the pins, not as extreme or as fast acting as the extreme overclocks results demonstrate, but still enough that in 3 years time some poor kid who bought a machine off Dell with a Foxconn socket is gonna have his computer burn out on him out of warranty.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

My MSI GD65 is Foxconn
not yet used it though

EVGA aren't exclusively LOTES though, the lower end boards use Foxconn

I was looking at the FTW anyway to be honest as it has 775 mounting holes meaning the £30 i wud use ona new cooler goes to better features on the board(cant seem to find the thermalright ultima bolt through in stock anywhere )
Its actually at 3.2 as the voltages didnt make up for the performance but im having some isues with my motherboard and i dont really want to buy a 775 motherboard when im only gunna sell it on in a few months anyway. I have ummed and aared for a while and i dont like 1366 because it drinks electricity and doesnt offer much performance benefit over 1156. Whilst im still unsure about a purchase now, especially with these reports about faulty sockets, i figured i should just jump the gun and actually buy. Doesnt matter when you buy there is always something better to wait for.
IMHO the 32nm chips should offer power consumption benefits and higher clocked processors(hopefully). The Core i5 and i7 and later Core2 processors are built on an older 45nm process anyway. I would probably get a cheap P43 based motherboard for under £60 to tide yourself over. Something like this motherboard would do the job:

If anything the cost of socket 1156 motherboards and DDR3 RAM should start to drop too over the next few months. Also if there are issues with the socket 1156 motherboards I would really wait until they are sorted out.
No quad 32nm CPU's though is there ?
