    But early 2009 i got 4GB for £35 :|
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Just check out hexus classifieds too, plenty of stuff for sale there memory wise.
Edit: except you need 100 posts...
Unfortunatly there's not a lot of cheap ddr3 around.
It was never that popular before and now it is popular (and actually useful) lots of people are trying to buy it, but not sell it as there's nothing to replace it with yet.

You might be able to pick up multiple 1gb sticks relatively cheaply 2nd hand or the older slower and high voltage sticks, although you'd not want that if you're on a p55 system.

2nd hand 1gb ddr2 stick are fairly cheap, that because it was very common and now people are replaceing them with 2gb sticks of ddr2 or ddr3

RAM doldrums. More expensive. Nothing particularly interesting.

Where are the 2x4Gb kits? I'm not moving from DDR2 until there is something slightly more interesting than just DDR3.

Re: pc memory prices, when will they drop?

There are still many people using 32 bit operating systems so 4GB should be fine for a while IMHO. Also many motherboards have 4 RAM slots anyway so it is easy to get 8GB if you are using a 64 bit OS. In most cases any more RAM is of no use TBH.

The problem is iam running venice core 3000 with ddr1 and ati 4850 pci, chip and mem served me well 5 years remember paying 170 for my ddr 2 gig, now its time to upgrade to something nice and fast. but the memory is just too expensive now.

Fashion is of no use. 2x4Gb RAM is the fashion or at least it should be.

4x2Gb DDR2 to 2x4Gb DDR3 is more desirable because you have 2 slots free and 1T speed. I didn't need an SSD but I bought one. DDR2 > DDR3 is just too boring. There needs to be a bigger perceived difference to justify prices as they are now compared with last year.

Re: pc memory prices, when will they drop?

I managed to time my jump perfectly it seems, i jumped ship upgrade wise and grabbed 4GB of GSkill ripjaw 2000Mhz for £~70, they're now tracking at £110.

The RAM prices aren't that high currently, but due to a failing currency and slow down in production (specifically of DDR2 pieces) (especially so compared to the market saturation) creates the illusion that it is disproportional.

It's been hunting around the same level for a while now having reached an equilibrium of supply and demand: http://www.dramexchange.com/

Until the pound starts to recover we'll remain around the same level i would think.

I think SSD prices have a little further to come down due to maturing technologies and refining production processes.

Re: pc memory prices, when will they drop?

Why are you focusing just on the RAM price? Is that the only upgrade? Motherboards at all levels have gone up 20-25% as well. When you're talking about the upper end this can easily be £50+ in itself, the same amount 4Gig kits have gone up (based on new pricing).

Not percentage wise, but nominally it's not far off depending on the range. Low to mid range have jumped £10-20 with high end £50 easy, especially for the 1366 socket based boards.

Well, if you're busting for an upgrade there's always the second hand market as some have suggested. I recently sold a 4Gig Corsair DDR2 kit for £60 delivered. DDR3 on the other hand is another story . Paid £145 for my 6Gig kit.

Re: pc memory prices, when will they drop?

I too bought a couple of 4GB DDR2 kits for 35 quid each a year ago, so just paying 80 quid for a 4GB kit on Scan's Today Only offer was a bit of a sting

Perhaps this is a reason why video cards seem a tad expensive as well, given they generally come with 1GB on them these days so that is about 20 quid which at the 4670 card level I was looking at is a major percentage of cost.

dont think motherboards have goone up that much, the difference if you always spend around 60 for a motherboard you can always buy one at that price, with mem you can't

Re: pc memory prices, when will they drop?

Feeble attempts to derail the thread. This RAM price moanathon isn't over yet.

RAM sticks are much smaller and less complicated than motherboards yet you can easily spend more on RAM than the motherboard.

Motherboard cost 89.9p per square inch

RAM costs £6.34 per square inch
