I actually am shocked, cos that doesn't even include my keyboard, mouse, desk, mousemat or monitor, which all add up to £490. So we're talking well over 2G once you include all the essential extras.

I've had a couple of pc parts I bought off there that didn't work but most the sellers on there aren't that bad and so a quick PM fixed it. Obviously it is slightly risky though!

I did a complete ground-up upgrade in 2007 and costed it out at about £1200. I hung back on some of the non-essentials (Zalman Reserator XT) and ended up spending about a grand.

Since then the current cost has actually gone down with later upgrades costing less than what was being replaced even though performance has improved!

• 8800GTS 320MB: £160 -> HD4850 512MB: £80
• Vista Ultimate OEM: £120 -> Win 7 Home Prem: £45
• Athlon 64 X2 5600: £160 -> Athlon X3 425: £65

The total comes to around £930 excluding the cost of any software.

I just added up the amount of money I have spent on PC hardware in the last 4 years or so and it comes to around £2000 to £2500 at least!

Constant rolling upgrade though, I don't spend more than about £250 in any one go.

that's the PC 3 24 LCD monitors 1 LCD TV and two sound cards.

my speakers cost more than that tho

The beauty of Gmail archiving! Here follows a nice boring breakdown of everything - and no I dont have anything better to do with my time! There have also been costs of Articlean, Arctic Silver etc but I usually have that lying around so not included. Case fans are also not included as they get transfered around various builts. That said - I have a nasty feeling the number is going to scare me

I think thats everything (ish!) obviously not including software other than OS. Also it doesnt include monitors or other peripherals ... (thank god as I do tend to splash out on peripherals!) Some money has also been made back by selling things that arent used anymore (but hardly any). This is just the main build and doesnt include purchases for other builds like NAS etc.

Also some things have been presents so its more a total that has been spent on the PC rather than the total that i've spent.

Always helpful to include a timeframe with these sorts of polls though - someone buying a new computer every 6 months could look like they've spent less than someone who has gradually upgraded something with good parts over 5 years

Anyway, my build (New case, PSU, 2gb ram, m/board, hdd, HSF, Win7 pro & second hand X2 4400, 1gb ram, 4870) comes to something like £615. Though because I've replaced some parts with better second hand ones the costing actually looks lower this way!
