    Case - Corsair 700D - £148
    PSU - HX850 - £127
    Motherboard - Abit P35 - £65
    CPU - Q6600 - £166

    HDD - F1 1TB - £72
    SSD - Intel 80GB X25-M x2 - £330
    BluRay drive - £70

    Total: £1191

And I'm building up about a £400 shopping list now for a load of watercooling gear, so make that about £1600 .

I actually am shocked, cos that doesn't even include my keyboard, mouse, desk, mousemat or monitor, which all add up to £490. So we're talking well over 2G once you include all the essential extras.

I've had a couple of pc parts I bought off there that didn't work but most the sellers on there aren't that bad and so a quick PM fixed it. Obviously it is slightly risky though!

Since then the current cost has actually gone down with later upgrades costing less than what was being replaced even though performance has improved!

I've also built an HD HTPC over the last few years which comes to around £500
I built my SFF between late 2006 and late 2007 and must have spent between £900 to £1100 IIRC.

    My current build:

    Shuttle SD37P2 ~ £290 in late 2006 from Dabs

    4GB Geil Black DDR2 800MHZ RAM ~ £50 from Ebay in 2008

Sony IDE SATA DVD Lightscribe rewriter ~ £25 from Aldi in 2006(was part of an external drive)

    320GB Samsung Spinpoint T ~ £60 to £70 from Scan in 2007

    500GB Samsung F3 ~ £40 to £45 from Scan in 2010

    HD4830 ~ £50 from Ebay in 2009

    450W Shuttle PC55 PSU ~ £95 from Microdirect in 2010

Akasa Vortexx Neo ~ £12 from Ebay in 2010

Cooling fans for PC ~ £20 from 2008 to 2010

    Intel Q6600 ~ £70 to £80 from Ebay in 2009

    Philips 200W6CS ~ £150

    Logitech G11 keyboard ~ £25

    Logitech G5 mouse ~ £15

The total comes to around £930 excluding the cost of any software.

I just added up the amount of money I have spent on PC hardware in the last 4 years or so and it comes to around £2000 to £2500 at least!

Remember to bring that figure up in any thread you make where you rant about Scan!

Current configuration I make it as 580 quid, though that doesn't include keyboard & monitor.

Constant rolling upgrade though, I don't spend more than about £250 in any one go.

Re: How much have you spent on your PC?

The beauty of Gmail archiving! Here follows a nice boring breakdown of everything - and no I dont have anything better to do with my time! There have also been costs of Articlean, Arctic Silver etc but I usually have that lying around so not included. Case fans are also not included as they get transfered around various builts. That said - I have a nasty feeling the number is going to scare me

    Original Build (June 2007):

    512MB Sapphire HD2900XT, PCI-E(x16) 1 £213.69
    500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T, 2 £54.35 (x2)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premiu 1 £54.99
    Samsung SH-S203/BEBN 20x DVD±R, 16x 1 £16.89
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6420, Socket 775, 1 £96.99
    650W Enermax Infiniti EIN650AWT Mod 1 £94.13
    2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 2 £76.55 (x2)
    Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP, iP35, S 77 1 £120.99
    Total Order £1,022.02

Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)
    Thermaltake Big Typh CPU cooler
    Total Order: £122.12

    Total Initial build: Apx £1100

Replacements, Upgrades and Additions (not in order of purchase)

    Replacement for 2900XT (8800GT) £106.93
Additional 640GB WD Hard drive £54.05
Replacement for Big Typh (Freezer 7 Pro) £20.76
    Windows 7 Student Offer £30
    Intel X25-M 80GB SSD £167.10
Replacement for P182 Lian Li PC-P50 Case £111.83
    Blu-ray / HD-DVD Combo Drive (LG GGC-H20L Lightscribe) £66.96
Replacement for Freezer 7 Pro - Titan Fenrir Xmas £35.82
    Replacement for 8800GT -Radeon 5850 1GB - £199.74

    Total Replacements and Upgrades: £793

I think thats everything (ish!) obviously not including software other than OS. Also it doesnt include monitors or other peripherals ... (thank god as I do tend to splash out on peripherals!) Some money has also been made back by selling things that arent used anymore (but hardly any). This is just the main build and doesnt include purchases for other builds like NAS etc.

Also some things have been presents so its more a total that has been spent on the PC rather than the total that i've spent.

Grand Total: Apx £1900... oh dear
At least the Student Loan Companies money has been spent on something useful for once - my PC!

Sigh - yes two cases and three CPU coolers isnt the best use of money. But how have I spent soo much and I've still got only 2 CPU cores!!!

Re: How much have you spent on your PC?

Always helpful to include a timeframe with these sorts of polls though - someone buying a new computer every 6 months could look like they've spent less than someone who has gradually upgraded something with good parts over 5 years

Anyway, my build (New case, PSU, 2gb ram, m/board, hdd, HSF, Win7 pro & second hand X2 4400, 1gb ram, 4870) comes to something like £615. Though because I've replaced some parts with better second hand ones the costing actually looks lower this way!

I can't be bothering to tot it up but probably £1k-£1.5k, but cost spread over a few years and offset through sale of old components and discounted over time - feels much more palatable.
