All Dennis magazines are awful, if anyone reads Autobahn express, you'll see similar style of writing, awful biased reviews. They just go with the big brands names who probably pay big chunks of money for advertisements and for reviewing their products.

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

One of the forum members replied to my suggestions saying that the G6950 was the best all round option!!

I posted a few links to prove my point:

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/123?vs=189

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/123?vs=120

    http://www.techspot.com/review/273-b...dup/page9.html

    http://www.techspot.com/review/336-c...nce/page8.html

I am sure the reply will be "but the G6950 overclocks to 9GHZ"!

Wow I didn't know the Pentium was such poor value for money. And that's even before you factor in the cost of the motherboard!

Wait until the socket 1155 Pentium processors are released!! Bit-tech will be all over them saying how great they are and how overclocking is now pointless due to their greatness!

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

    Point...
But it's unfair to mislead people new to the hobby into buying one specific brand when there could be a far better value alternative for what they want.

And their idea of budget is, err, strange...

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

    It gets better!!

One of the Bit-tech staff responded with the following comment:
"Man doing the buyers guide is a thankless task.

I'd like to stress that in the buyers guide we only recommend products we've tested - how can we recommend you go out and spend your hard earned cash on something we've not even laid hands on? Please bear this in mind when you are typing the message decrying our recommendations as incorrect."

So their excuse for not recommending any budget AMD components is because they have not reviewed them??

So they can avoid reviewing the better value AMD components and hence omit them from the guides.

How come they have not reviewed the Antec EarthWatts 380W and yet still recommend it? I almost feel like asking them when the review is coming!

The gauntlet has been thrown down. The Hexus monthly buyers guide; available only in the bargain section! It will have to be dynamic. Monitor guide and cheapest OSs found too.

The average budget of the Hexus user would I imagine be a bit lower and more savy. Only two price points and the lowest is not aimed at gaming?

£300 - Office and video work mainly but can play 'some' games. Some ideas were posted in a thread recently.

    £500 - Gamers build 460/6850.

  12. Received thanks from:

Those two types of build make sense.

A few months ago I suggested a budget gaming sticky but it came unstuck:

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...pc-sticky.html

A Hexus monthly buyers guide would be cool BTW!

    Edit!!

One of the chaps in the thread still thinks the G6950 is the best option despite me showing them plenty of benchmarks from other websites.

    The chap says the following:

"Bit-Tech have ran all the tests on the options you've given and still come back with the excellent G6950. That wasn't just on overclocking as well. If your options had an overall benefit over and above their recommendations, they would have included them instead. They didn't."

    Are some people so gullible??

Re: Bit-tech best hardware of 2010

Criteria will have to be decided before we start and everyone can have a crack.

I think the standard package of DVDRW/HDD will not vary. PSU will do. the way GPUs are going a 600W is probably the way to go. Case? I know very little.

I'll have to do some work today before they sack me but will have a think.

Sounds good, would it not be better to put it in a public section of the forum so it's Google-able, easier for non-members to find?
