my Virtualisation Blog http://jfvi.co.uk Virtualisation Podcast http://vsoup.net
My first comp was a bbc computer, then a 286, 486 then various pentium systems (1,2) then a 1GHz athlon with 128mb ram (was incredibly fast). This got robbed by some thieving scum along with the old pentium1 i did my schoolwork on. They were replaced by two acer machines- the one i am using right now is an acer p4 1.6GHz w/512 sd ram 40gig hd cd writer. Anyway ill be using the rig that in my sig as soon as my canle router gets here
Mine was an amstrad 8086... I believe it ran at 8mhz!!
It had a 10mb winchester hard disk on its own interface board which was about 18inches long if memory serves me!
Beer is life, life is good!
I started off with a beasty 486DX with 16mb of ram and 300mb HD what a beauty that was LOL
anyway just thought i would post in here
My first was an Amstrad CPC 464 with a colour monitor, wooooo ! ! !
Then came a commador, then a NES, then a SNES and then a 100Mhz Intel. After that was the time I started drinking so it gets abit hazy after then
486dx2 33MHz (8MHz with turbo!)
an uber 8MB of ram
supersize 14" monitor
3 BUTTON MOUSE!!
500MB HDD
thats about all i remember lol
it ran Doom2 sooo sweetly
Cyrix 166MHz with 32 MB ram. 4MB on which was for video. 4GB HDD. Windooze 95
And i still have it!
Mine was a commadore 64!
Oh how I miss waiting 10 minutes to load a tape everytime I booted it up. Was fun though, in the end I swapped it for a mega drive with some games lol
My first PC was a P120 with 16MB RAM, it wasn't THAT long ago and comparing it to my current system specs its amazing how fast technology moves.
The world of computers was introduced to me by my granda and his ZX Spectrum. I would beg and plead to go up on Saturdays so I could play the moto x game on it with the joystick! Then I got my own...
Got my spectrum when I was no age (5 or 6) and was happily plugging away at tape cassete games. Ages to load and screaming noises coupled with random colours on the screen.
First PC per say was a 386 which ran at 25mhz when the turbo was on. The wonders of Windows 3.1, DOS, Doom and Theme Park. Then try installing Windows 95 on it from floppies!
Second PC was an adventure into the world of multimedia and sound. A Packard Bell Pentium 60 with a CD-Rom drive and a printer. Also the machine I began the internet odysey on.
Third PC and one which is still in use mainly as an internet machine. Pentium 2 300 mhz. Originally with a Voodoo 4mb 3DFX card and I was introduced to real 3D! Slightly changed now with more ram and a Voodoo 3 2000 16mb it still is a useful machine...
Fourth and current PC. Originally a Tiny PC *shudder* but I've changed that much that it can hardly be called a Tiny asides from the moniter and keyboard. 1.2 ghz Thunderbird with 128mb ram and a Geforce 2 MX 32mb. After a recent incident involving a few capacitors blowing I had to replace the mobo and it's now running at the spec in my sig.
I still have everything except the 386
First Computer: Spectrum 128+ (with 3" Floppy Drive)
First PC: Advent SX-50mhz carp from Currys (cost me over £2,000)
Upgraded to IBM P75 3 years later, CD-ROM Drive was an extra on that model!
<sig removed by Agent - You should know better mate! >
I know where you spawn!
Illegitimi non carborundum
Pronounced: NO-lee NO-teece per-mee-TAIR-ray TEH tuh-RAIR-ay!
my first pc was also an Ambra 386SX... was a total POS lol...
then i got a Tiny P150, which was also a POS
then came a Gateway PIII 750, which lasted a good few years until the psu died and took out the motherboard. that was the last pre built pc that my family bought.
i built a AMD Tbird 800mhz system shortly after the one above was bought, and that was a good system at the time, 384mb ram, GeForce 2 MX400, 30gb hdd, Coolercase Tornado, SB Live.
then i relegated that to my parents when the gateway died, and built my current machine: Athlon XP 2200+, 512mb DDR 3200, 2* 80gb HDD, SB 4.1, GF4 Ti4200, CDRW, DVD, Coolermaster 200 case.
an amstrad shnieder(sp) cpc 64 ,dont know why we had the german version tho
then a lowly 486 66mhz family puter
Pentium 166Mhz 4mb ram family puter
my first computer as in totally mine was a 486 100Mhz 16mb really slow
next was a cyrix 233 ,8mb onboard video ,pcchips m590 motherboard was in mid 1998 upgraded to a AMd k62 350Mhz and 64mb then overclocked to 450Mhz had a voodoo 1 then 2 then 3 in it aswell
next was a s370 Celeron 366 in a gigabyte board
then an Athlon 1000Mhz ,gf2 Ti , msi kt266 ,256mb ddr , 40gb hdrive ,overclocked to 1.2Gig and stuck in a juno P6 tower(i still have this tower in my warddrobe cant bear to throw it away as it cost so much )
then stuck in a koolance Pc2-601 white water cooled tower
then changed to a Athlon XP 1800 , asus A7v333r , 40gb + 2X 13gb in raid. later added a 120gb ibm drive and a pioneer 104 dvd writer
end of last year the case changed to the blue 1 as the white 1 had pump failure and bits changed to a asus gf4 ti4200 ,epox 4PEA+ ,80gb wd 8mb ,p4 2.4B ,256 corsair 3200 and overclocked to 2.8 also changed to a pioneer 105 and added a second 120gb drive
now on a vapochill gigabyte 8ik1100 canterwood ,P4 2.4C @ 3.2 ,512mb corsair 3500 ,and a geforce2 mx400 32mb ?!? 80gb 8mb drive and now just 1 120gb drive

PII 166mhz
16mb ram
2mb noname gfx card
14" monitor
1.2gb fujitsu hd
and the whole lot is still working
Then i moved onto a 350mhz machine for a few weeks which was crap so i got it changed and ended up with a 450mhz machine which was ok, lasted about a year.
Xmas before last i got an XP1600+ system with a GF2mx 256mb ram etc
That has turned into
XP1800+
Epox 8RDA+
2x256mb Corsair XMS3500
GeForce 3 Ti200
Wrapped in a Lian-Li PC65 and a nice Samsung 191T TFT

Mine was a commadore 64!
most of peoples PCs here is when you were still in dipers jcb33 and we were running win3.11 or lower and they boot up much faster than the PCs today. until windows 95 came out anyway :>Originally posted by Jcb33
Wow slow how long would that take to boot up?
