just out of interest, did you consider the fx5900 ultra for this instead of the 9800pro?
Yes, and I know 3d mark 03 is 5900 in about 15 out of top 20, this was more aimed at 3d mark 2001 which is r9800pro, i was interested to see how the 256mb version of the radeon stood up to the fx ultra in the 03 marks though, havent seen anyone doing it yet.

i wasn't doubting your choice at all, it was just a question as i've heard of the fx5900 getting better results in 03, should be interesting to see how well the 9800pro does

UPDATE: We ****ed the 9800pro 256... getting powercolour 128mb and refund of extra charges sent through in replacement.

Must replace it im sure that the rad will achieve better results in games if not benching im talking about half life 2
Aiming for top of 3DMark 2001 is sooo 2001
Normally I dont like saying "wait until such and such comes out".... but in this case being one of the early peeps to have a promie cooled AMDXP2... er, sorry 64 - would be quite nice. That and the 9800XT would actually make you stand a chance of getting in the top 20 if thats your goal.
Your problem is, of course that the components you list were all available 6 months ago giving even Welsh people + their dogs the chance to get within a 1% score of the top 20 as it stands.
