A lot of BIOSes support bootup logos - check your motherboard CD for a copy of a logo editing program.

Tip:
Make the image up in photoshop (640x480) and once done change it to indexed colour, 256 colours, then save it as a bitmap (it'll choose 8bit) with no RLE compression. That gives the best quality, rather than letting a BIOS tool throw away most of the colour pallete.

i just found out that my gigabyte ga-7n400pro 2 rev.2 supports this. W00T W00T!!!!!!
A warning to some - if you dont' have a 4Mbit chip, or your BIOS is full with lots of cra... lovely stuff, then your boot logo might not fit.
I once resorted to removing the silicon image and promise raid bioses that were strapped onto the bios of my Gigabyte GA7VAXP, just so I could have the half-life loading screen show at bootup

Not impossibleAssembly language isnt too hard to get.....we had to learn and write simple programs for it in A level computer.....
Writing a game in it tho, I think most of the community would be screwed there
Thing is, my PC is rarely rebooted or turned off, plus when it does, the boot image (that I've now disabled) goes so quick I wouldn't see it!

I changed mine to my usual screen I have - i.e the logo of the beloved red devils and I have to agree with Allen as well, mines not turned off as much as it was used to so unless your a serial rebooter then its a good idea but not really practical.
