    OEM or Retail??

ive seen alot of ppl posting that they can get a a64 3000 from lowestonweb for about 80 quid oem whereas scan do the retail version with hsf and 3yr warranty for around 105 quid.

as im wanting to build a new pc should i go oem or retail? as im not currently thinking of overclocking the chip yet im wondering which way to go.

can i get a decent hsf for around 25 quid?

but i do want the venice version of the 3000, are the ones on lowestonweb venice or winchester?

    cheers

I believe you get a longer warantee on a retail processor.

The ADA3000DAA4BP on the lowestonweb site is the venice core part.
The other variations are ADA3000DEP4AW (130nm) Clawhammer and ADA3000DIK4BI (90nm) Winchester.

building your own saves only a but of money, but
    it is fun
you get to know whats goiing in in the compuer, and understand itbetter
con be infuriating!- I just bui;t one, and the MB says to put memory in banks 1 and 3, but it will only work with memory in banks 3 and 4. It tool two days to figure this out, by googleing the inernet.

you get statutory vendor on oem and that is it, basically it's a DOA return period... Retail you get 3 years via AMD

Depends on how much cash you have - if on a limited budget then the OEM chip and £10 cooler is a good bargain (don't forget thermal paste). The stock coolers work very well and people have had decent overclocks with them.

I would perhaps look at a quieter cooler such as a Zalman if not overclocking.

If you don't plan on overclocking, or even just a tad, and you aren't really bothered about £5 or so then the retail version is good value. The HSF it comes with is fine and the thermal pad means you don't have to fiddle with paste.

Ebuyer do a good price IIRC. All S939 3000+ are Venice as far as I know.

So if you are just going for a standard easy build then I would go for the retail version purely for the big warranty. If you are particularly bothered about it being quiet then go for the OEM and get a quieter cooler.
