Ultra portable laptop £299 cont

Installed a dothan 1.5ghz runs really sweet stable at 600mHz 0.7v and 1.5Ghz does 1v also installed the 2915abg mini pci wifi card and reception is better then the pcmcia but i wanna get the extended 8 cell battery so i brought this case http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/dicota-p...case-2-cc2.htm

Also does anyones tfts tft look like its on 16bit colour all the time even though i've set it to 32bit i can see the colour changes really clearly

Mine has weird artifacting on the top right corner of all Windows windows. Where the grey bit is in the corner. No such problems on Ubuntu though.

I dont get the artifacts with the classic windows theme. Just bought a 2915abg from ebay.. will this improve the signal strength a lot? zixiazhang, does speedstep work with the new processor?

I got mine second hand and it didnt come with internal wifi but the reception is better the the pcmcia card i was using, I'm using Notebook Hardware Control to act as speed step its alot better and very very useful

I guess speedstep wont work in linux without software. Have you tried a BIOS update to see if it includes a speedstep update?

meinnit, speedstep works with Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10

But the BIOS wont recognise the cpu as a centrino so as standard the os will also think its a non centrino. It would surely require another app to override this?

Installed the 2915abg wireless minipci card today and signal strength is so much better! Thanks for the suggestion zixiazhang.. can ditch my PCMCIA card now.

On another note.. I noticed that when the laptop is powered down there is a slight high pitched noise that can be heard from the bottom through the air vent. The noise goes away when I take the battery out. I only noticed this today but I dont know if its a new problem. Anyone else got this?

i get teh whine - think it happens when running off battery rather than mains.
i get a slight pixellation in 32 bit HOWEVER have just side by side compared with my work laptop ( top range toshiba) and its in the tosh as well ( albeit less noticable)

The noise happens even when the laptop is powered down which is worrying and also annoying! Have to take the battery out every time I power down which will probably drain the clock battery very quickly.
