No, it goes beyond voltmods.
It seems to be an issue regarding the chip itself.

I will be back on this thread soon
have been looking at the ds4, but with the probs that some people seem to be having i'm having second thoughts, so looking at the abit ab9/ab9 pro as an alternitive, has anybody got one and what are they like?
Coolaler got 5.5 and a 9sec superpi with his monster cooling.Originally Posted by weebroonieuk

He uses liquid nitrogen and all sorts of silly mods to get those speeds though, I doubt you can 24/7 at that speedOriginally Posted by Clunk

Okay I got my Conroe E6600 Rig going over the week end after the OCZ Psu I ordered arrived DOA I got a replacement from PC "Rip Off" World.
Heres my spec :
Gigabyte DS4
E6600 - Running at 340FSB
Corsair Twin2X 2GB PC6400 800Mhz
Club 3D 7950GX2
74GB Raptor
320Gb WD 12Mb Cache
Cooler Master Cavalier 3 Silver
So I wacked it together scared I would have the memory issue people having been having with the Gigabytes. But It worked perfectly! The case is a little cramped but I got everything in and the 120mm case a fans are quite. Even the 7950 is quite!
Heres my current overclocking results, Im waiting for my Freezer Pro 7 & a BIOS update to go any further.
Current Issues are, different programs report different Ram speed, donno what to beleave and the dividers confuse me.
Also Im having problems with the SPdif - Optical audio out. Basically its looses lock ( Led on my Amp goes off ) so windows plays a sound effect i hear the end of it, then the lock light goes off. If i play music it cuts the first 1 second off then plays fine, very annoying.
3D performance is excellent I can finally run BF2 and HL2 at full res ( 1920*1200 ) with everything up full. Fantastic!!
No clue if my 3D mark score is any good tho.
I did clock just past 350mhz FSB and got just over 15 seconds on the 1mb PI. Any faster and it wouldnt boot it.
So any suggustions On how to get more out of it, or what more I should test. Ive Heard the beta bios improves the FSB overclocking, but ill wait till its out properly.
I'm thrilled with it, its sooo fast!

Checked the Gigabyte site this morning and they have added BIOS version F3 for the DS4. Downloaded it this morning and quickly cracked up the FSB to 366mhz 3.29ghz and it booted I ran Dual prime and the heat sensor's show quite a quick heat rise to just over 60degC then dual prime failed. Whats the max temp before they start thermal limiting?
So am I right in thinking, I need to lower my voltage?
My freezer pro 7 arrived today, so I need to get that on to cool this beast down.
The other weirdness, is these memory dividers, I set it to 2x in the bios, thinking 366x2 = 732 just under the 800mhz. But CPU-z says my divider is at 1:1 and the ram is running at 366
Very weird.
Ill post back with my freezer pro results vs std retail HSF

Yeh, Its weird its displaying the divider as 1:1 as ive set it at 2x ( should be 1:2 ) I did leave it on auto before and had CPU-z display's 510mhz (see screencap above) now if thats only 1/2 It over clocked my 800mhz RAM loads!

Got it all set up and priming yesterday and was a bit miffed to see that it needed a LOT ov volts to hit 3150mhz (1.62v in fact), so i decided to disable all the cpu settings that i hadnt done already, and set the volts back to stock..amazingly it had primed (orthos) overnight perfectly. the only other thing i changed was to put a fan blowing on the ram, coincidence? dunno, but its getting there
only at 3ghz at the moment, but ill let this reach 12 hrs and up it some more.
