same here with that new bios, relaxed the memory timings as far as they will go, still takes 1.5v to hit anything over 3150mhz, but i am able to hit 470 x 8 and boot into windows, but not stable.

try the 8x multiplier, i seem to have had more luck using that.

Mine WAS at 3.6GHz....was annoyed as I didnt think it was prime stable as it would fail, however it is a bug in the earlier chips intel has revealed

my rig is as my sig, going to update the BIOS tonight and have a shot at getting better than 3.6 at 1.35v, maybe 1.45 just for the superpi run (im under 15s at 3.6 thanks to my ram running fast and tight timings 4-4-4-9 at 1ghz )

All these OCs make me want a conroe system all the more, sadly I cant shift my dual nocona Xeon so I cant get the cast for it, its soo unfair

You can't lower multi's on Intel chips afaik (apart from X6800)

you can on all the conroes if the bios/board supports it only downwards, not upwards...the x6800 is up and down.

My P5W DH Deluxe doesn't and my Abit AB9 Pro doesn't either

i was sure the p5wdh did as well. in the cpu settings bit in the bios, there is a setting (on the p5b) called "modify ratio support", if you enable that another setting will appear underneath that and that is "ratio cmos setting" and that will show the default of 9 (if you have a 6600). so for example, if you are stuck at the 380fsb mark with the 9x multiplier, you can change it to 8x427 or 488x7...you get the idea, didnt make my overclock any higher to be honest, ill try again with this new bios.

Hello all,

I just got my conroe E6600 today along with the other bits. It's on the stock cooler atm, but I'm thinking of getting the Scythe Infinity.



Superpi 1M is done in 14.953 seconds, with dual 32M passing. Prime95 works but causes the temps to sore above 60, hitting 70+ which is well high, so I won't be testing 'em until I get the replacement HSF. Atm the only use for this machine will be compiling code and I'll be keeping a close eye on the temps until the cooler arrives. That said, @ 9*390 on prime bench is does a hard reset, which I believe is due to my ram being rated @ 667Mhz, and is now being pushed to 780MHz...it seems comfortable @ 760Mhz...

BIOS 0614 is now up on the Asus FTP for the P5B Deluxe...

Also some great info has come to light regarding high FSBs with the faster CPUs which explains why a lot of people are getting better overclocks with the E6300.....


Seems the P5B sets the north bridge clock speed to:

Default Multiplier
--------------------- X FSB
Selected Multiplier

So for E6600s, if you try and run (for example) 6 x400, the North bridge trys to run at (9/6) X 400 = 600MHz!

I am really starting to hate Intel chipsets, YET AGAIN!

This is my highest 'unstable' stable OC. Let me explain. Superpi runs, 32M finishes. However, anything with Prime/Orthos fails.

The reason is my RAM is 667 rated, that said Gigabyte are being pe0ns with the BIOS updates, so hopefully with the next update, we will be given Mem dividers rather than being forced to run at 1:1...

As I'm primarily using this system for one purpose and that being compiling, I've found it to be stable in general, and temps arn't being too bad so I'm staying at this for now...



The voltages have been upped a bit this time around, 1.425vcore, +0.30v VDIMM, +0.20v MCH and FSB....

cptwhite a member on here a mate of mine built his recently a conroe 6600 and gigabyte ds3 he has managed to get 3.25ghz stable max speed out of it any more and it goes a little unstable

same here, 3250 stable for everyday @ stock and 3700 for superpi..ill have to give the new bios a go.
