    Hi there,

I had a similar problem with my recent build - P5B Deluxe/WiFi / E6700 / TWIN2X2048-6400C4 (LN14277) / EVGA 7950GX2. In my case, the system booted, but failed (and would not POST at all - no bleeps) after a shudown/restart.... Removed everything expect CPU, and it POSTed with bleeps - but unfortunately, I can't remember the bleep code that I had (documented - but at home, & I'm at work...). So suspected Video and RAM - and eventually (in my case) got it to POST (e.g. with bleeps) with ONLY CPU and Video installed.

To complete the troubleshooting of the RAM, I actually went and bought the cheapest stick of DDR2 RAM I could get my hands on within 1 hour (yep - I'm impatient...) - 256M DDR2 PC2-4300 from the local PC World @ £11.50 (via Web/pick up at store, to get that price). MOBO POSTed perfectly each time, using that single stick in each slot....

Spoke to Scan Tech Support, who agreed that the RAM appeared to be faulty, and immediately aranged RMA. Also advised that LN14277 supported EPP, but the mobo doesn't, so a bit of a waste. So agreed on refund for faulty memory, and purchased LN11596 (TWIN2X2048-6400) instead. As appears to be the usual case - excellent support and advice from Scan - the new memory worked first time, and saved a couple of quid in the process.... (there was a price difference at the time - looks like the LN14277 has come down in price now....).

Oh - and also upgraded BIOS [from original 0302, to 0804] whilst waiting for the new RAM...

Memory incompatabilities seem to be an issue with this motherboard (also checkout the Asus support forums) - all I can say is that LN11596 worked for me (with 0804 BIOS).....

    Cheers,

Well there is your problem right there, trying to use the 0302 bios with any config isnt a good idea, and not surprising that you had problems

OK, guy had a look - reset everything and tried another stick of RAM and got it to boot set the volatge to 1.9 and got it to boot from my Corsairs wehey!

CLunk, what BIOS version are you using, I would upgrade to 0804 but have seen some horror stories from upgrading to this BIOS

Huh! Does that mean P5B owners have to use a cheap bit of ram to boot up to set the voltage at 1.9v to eventually use corsair ram?

    Excellent

I have used them all, Im currently on 804 and it doesnt seem any better or worse than the last one. It is definately worth flashing it to the 804 bios, if i remember rightly, it will let you boot once at 1.8v to get into the bios (i cant remember where i read that), if not, it is worth investing in a £10 stick of spare ddr2, it will come in handy if you go too far with your overclock and have to reset the cmos

My corsair ram worked perfectly with the original shipping bios, I have had G.skill that wouldnt boot and that was only rated at 1.9v Luck of the draw it seems.

it doesn't seem to be the case for everyone, quite a few people say it worked first time for them, I would give it a try, and if it doesnt, borrow some cheapo RAM if you can...

The COrsair PSU is very quiet btw and the modular bits are easy to use, I am impressed so far... back to installing windows now

Thanks Clunk I will give 0804 a try anyway, hope it works

erm on Anandtech...... Official ASUS P5B / P5B Deluxe Thread.......there are 36 pages of problems of different sorts.
Maybe I should delay my upgrade to P5B deluxe to at least March.

Have at a look at the date of the posts for those though, on the Corsair website there was a lot of activity, but it seems to have been sorted out for that RAM module by new bios.... if you can wait, I would until the new year, RMAs and deliveries will be much faster then than they are now...

erm Not a very good state of affairs as companies like Dell, Mesh etc can't be expected to swap ram around on each computer, it's gotta work first time for volume production.

Ah! Is that the official recommendation from scan to use with a P5B deluxe wifi motherboard for overclocking (esp as Intel don't seem to mind there CPUs are being overclocked).
