Just sold my RAM which means that my Core 2 adventure begins soon. Getting an E4300, Abit IB9 and Corsair DDR2-800. Will see how far I can push I can go with a good ole' Arctic Freezer 7 Pro before I get bored and put it under water again. (If my water cooling doesn't get sold)

I don't see what the problem with value ram is. Mine hits 280mhz with all the other setting at stock speeds (I think/hope).
    With love and many thanks,

    E6600 help

    Hi,

Im totally new here and Im gona start by asking a Noob Question!

How do I go about OC'ing the following rig:

    E6600
    AsusCommando
    2g Corsair XMS2 Cas 5
    Crossfire: X1900 + X1900 XTX
    250g Raid 1
    Zalman CNP5000? CPU cooler

I've OC'd b4 on later Asus boards but when i try to either up the FSB or within the Asus suite the system crashes or doesn't load to windows.

Any ways if anyone can suggest steps to OC'ing to the FSBs im reading about that'd be great!!

    Cheers
    Shafty

    STOCK FTW!

Just installed it yesterday, looking at getting a decent temp monitoring program that can output to a G15 as well, if anybody knows of one (MBM5 died on me and wont install ) let me know.

    Got the customary E4300
The somewhat controversial Abit IB9 (cracking little board for the cash)
The ever reliable Corsair XMS2 PC6400 with 4-4-4-12 ratings
And now cooled by air using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro

Will have a look at overclocking once I have the temp monitor set up. Clunk, any tips on getting this whole shebang started?

Excellent, someone else with a 4300

Temp monitoring, isnt there an Abit util on the cd, or for download?

TAT and coretemp will come in handy as well.

Give orthos a run overnight at stock settings and if it runs ok with no errors, you should be ok to get cracking

Really don't like the Abit utilitiy, it sucks basically, it can't even pick up it's own temperature settings correctly, thinks the CPU is the PWM and vice/versa.

Managed to get MBM5 working fine. apart from the switching between GPU temps and CPU temps, I'll sort that out though.

Will probably leave Orthos on overnight to see if it runs fine. then on with the overclock.

    Very nice.

I know I wont be getting to those speeds but hoping for something around 3Ghz, but anything over 2.5 though and I wont be complaining.

Looks as if everything is going fine at Stock volatge.

Just this whole FSB, Boot Strap, effective FSB stuff is making my head hurt. I liked A64's Lower the HTT multi and raise the HTT and away you go.

Got to do Laundry tomorrow so will have a tinker whilst the clothes go round and round. Thats some silly latencies on that memory though, how much did it set you back?

Overclocking on the a64 will help you out a lot. Best thing is, to not rush it. Keep an eye on the temps, keep an eye on the voltage, especially if you have the vcore on auto. Set the ram to 1:1 and up the fsb a bit at a time, run orthos for 12 hours or so until you are happy its stable, then do it all again.

Oh and make sure you enter your ram timings manually, including any subtimings and that is one less thing to make it fail

Youll pick it up as you go
