Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

In my humble option there are a number of elements that provide that missing element that keeps you interested

Good PVP (keeps your interest goign when you reach the end)

Ways to show off e.g. Armour huge weapons etc. Look what I have got syndrome

Reason to play e.g good versus evil ideally PVP a good example for me is the Alterac Valley battle in WOW (although poorly executed but right idea)

No Grinding (this should be outlawed)

Varied classes and appearance (in Conan this is just not the case everyone looks the same)

    Please add to this list
    Specs:

    Q6600 G0, Thermalright Ultra 120, ABIT IP35 PRO, 4GB Corsair DDR2, Trusty old Tagan 480u, BFG 8800 GTS 512, Samsung F1 750 GB.

The impression I get from most reviews so far is that there is a fair bit of grinding in AoC?

I dunno my mate Darklink is already 34 and he's played a few days. I just killed a few mobs and I'm already level 5. Seems real quick leveling.. Just don't really like it though..

The levelling is pretty quick but It just seems a bit vacant of fun.

When i realised that tortage is instanced it kind of ruined things for me a bit more.

I thought the hubs would be huge worlds were everyone would be in the same place but when your trying to meet up with friends and ur in different instances then it kind of sucks.

The graphics are lots better than wowo but the sense of community seems a lot worse

yeah true, you can get to the max level it about 2 weeks if you want. So grinding is outlawed in AOc

Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

Guild Wars is ok for casuals, takes a much much shorter time to hit lvl cap. I still know people who just play pre searing only, its a goal to hit lvl 20 in pre without going into the big open world.

Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

If you had ever played an mmorpg you would understand.

But an MMORPG if its any good has an addiction factor, if you don't have enough time it becomes quite boring, if you are leveling with people you'll get left behind etc.

Yosh is right in the guild wars is probably better for its pick up and play for a bit, probably eve too, but most of the rest require the huge investment of time. I mean that is the whole point of an mmorpg, its a huge time drain.

If you don't believe this go and look at the majority of players on WoW's Armour and look at play time.

If you are playing only 4-5 hours per week you are talking 40 weeks to even get to the highest level.

    Just my view...

Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

Guild Wars is good for casual players and can be played solo a lot of the time with the henchmen.

Since it first launched i will have easily clocked up about 300 hours if not more. The first campaign took me around 129 hours to complete, Factions and Nightfall I am yet to finish and currently working through Eye of the North which I will have easily hit the 20 hours on already in just a weeks play.

So it can actually require quite a bit of time to be put into it to get anywhere. Only downside now is that there arn't that many players in some of the areas so teaming up to complete a mission can be awkward.

Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

i've played guild wars and thought it was a great game. i dont mind if it takes ages to level up but does it take 10+hours just to complete a single quest? if quests only take an hour or 2 the most then that's good enough for me and any other casual gamer

Re: No Conan Post Since Go Live

Quests on Guild Wars can range from quick 25 mins upto an hour or so. Took me just under an hour middle of last week to do a 2 level dungeon on Eye of the North. Thats the beauty of it, you can play as little or as much as you want.

Saturday night I played for 5 hours with a few breaks, explored a huge area completely and also done a mission where you had to take back an NPC's homeland from the Charr, then also done a 5 level Dungeon in that time. So actually got quite a bit done in that timescale, I just wanted to keep playing.

Only downside to the dungeons I have found is that if you log out halfway through you have to start them again from scratch. Should have implemented some sort of save per level feature when in them.

If you have the 3 main campaigns though (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall) there are no dungeons to contend with and quests / missions are a bit easier to navigate. Nothing in the game would take you more than an hour or two unless you wanted it that way.

I've been looking into a sub based game though, choice is out of 2 now. LOTRO or Everquest 2 is the way I am heading. Played the trial of Everquest 2, shame they only allow you in the starter area though. I would have liked to see a bit more of the game but it does seem interesting enough.

most mmorpgs require quite some time when you play to get the fun out of it. It's not just like an fps where you join a server with some mates, have a match then you're off.
